Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A woman (with a set of powder blue luggage) is preparing to leave for a trip to London, while the man who is meeting her on the plane is also shown getting ready. This is accompanied by The Corrs' song, "Breathless". Which movie is this the opening to?

Answer: The Wedding Date

In "The Wedding Date" (2005), Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) is nervous about seeing her ex-fiance at her sister's wedding in England. Since she doesn't have a steady, Kat hires an escort (Dermot Mulroney) to act as her boyfriend for the trip. "Breathless" is a catchy tune by the Irish group, The Corrs.

The song appears on their 2000 album "In Blue", and was a worldwide hit for them. The soundtrack for "The Wedding Date" also includes several songs by Michael Buble, including "Sway" (played when Kat and Nick are having their dance lesson) and "Save the Last Dance for Me".
2. In "Say Anything..." (1989), Lloyd Dobler holds a boombox over his head outside the home of Diane Court, the young lady who recently broke up with him. The boombox is playing the song "In Your Eyes" to remind her of a special moment they shared. Who plays Diane?

Answer: Ione Skye

Lloyd (John Cusack) meets Diane after high school graduation and invites her to a party. The two of them begin dating, but Diane's dad thinks she should break up with Lloyd since she'll soon be leaving for school in England. She takes her dad's advice and breaks up with Lloyd, who is devastated by the split.

He tries to remind her of a special evening they shared by playing the song "In Your Eyes" so that she can hear it. "In Your Eyes" is from Peter Gabriel's album, "So".
3. What is Clark (Chevy Chase) doing while "Mele Kalikimaka" is playing, in "Christmas Vacation" (1989) ?

Answer: thinking about a swimming pool

Clark, who just wants an old-fashioned Griswold family Christmas, is planning on using his Christmas bonus to put in a swimming pool. Late one evening, Clark is in the kitchen looking out back and imagining how the pool would be. Along with Ellen and the kids, he pictures cousin Eddie (with fins and snorkel), as well as Mary, the salesgirl he bought Ellen's lingerie from.

His reverie is interrupted by Ruby Sue, who thinks that Clark is Santa Claus because of his red robe. Though others, including Jimmy Buffett, have recorded "Mele Kalikimaka", the version by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters plays in "Christmas Vacation".
4. In "Brassed Off" (1996), the "William Tell Overture" is played by the Grimley band at the first practice that Gloria attends.

Answer: False

The song the band plays when Gloria first attends a practice is Rodrigo's "En Aranjuez con tu amor" (she plays the solo on the flugelhorn). Although crushed by the closing of their pit, the band manages to attend Nationals thanks to Gloria. Led by Harry because Danny was still in hospital, the band plays the "William Tell Overture" at the Royal Albert Hall for Nationals, which they win. Also known as the theme for the Lone Ranger, the piece was written by Gioachino Rossini.

It has been used in many movies, including "Twister" (1996) (where it was used in a medley with "Oklahoma"), "Fat Albert (2004) and "My Life" (1993).

The soundtrack for "Brassed Off" also includes "The Florentiner March", played at semi-finals; "Danny Boy", played outside of Danny's hospital room; and "Pomp and Circumstance", which was played at the end.
5. Which of these movies ends with Johnny and Tracey (Aidan Quinn and Daryl Hannah) riding down the road on a motorcycle, while Bob Seger's "Roll Me Away" plays?

Answer: Reckless

In "Reckless" (1984), Johnny Rourke is a rebellious outsider who falls for rich girl Tracey Prescott. Tracey falls in love with Johnny, but is afraid of what her friends and family will say about it. After the death of his father, Johnny plans on leaving town for a better life elsewhere, and goes by their school to pick up Tracey. Johnny gets into a fight with Tracey's former boyfriend, Randy (Adam Baldwin), after which Tracey is forced to decide what she wants.

She chooses to go with Johnny and hops on his motorcycle with him.

The movie's soundtrack includes other memorable songs such as "Never Say Never" by Romeo Void (played at the school dance), "Kids in America" by Kim Wilde, and a few songs by INXS including "The One Thing".

The next day is Ginny's wedding, and Sam, her mother, and her two sisters leave for the church first, while David Bowie's "Young Americans" plays. Sam's dad and brother get in the other car with the grandparents, but are delayed when they find Long Duk Dong sprawled on the ground. "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol, "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors, and "If You Were Here" by the Thompson Twins are among the songs included on the soundtrack of "Sixteen Candles".
7. As Susan and Sharon are marched to their isolation cabin at summer camp, a famous march plays, in "The Parent Trap" (1961). This march was also used in "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957) where it was whistled by the prisoners. What is the name of this march?

While at Camp Inch, Sharon and Susan instantly dislike one another because of their remarkable resemblance to each other. After playing several pranks on each other, their feud culminates in a fight at a dance. Their punishment is that they are to stay together in a cabin for the duration of camp.

As Miss Inch leads the two girls to the cabin, the rest of the campers fall in behind them whistling the march. "Colonel Bogey March" was also used in "The Breakfast Club" and "Spaceballs". The march was written by Major Frederick Ricketts in 1914, under the alias Kenneth Alford.
8. Maverick and Goose sing the song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" to woo Charlie, in "Top Gun" (1986). Who sings the version of the song which plays at the end of the movie?

At the end of the movie, Maverick returns to Miramar as an instructor. While sitting in a diner, he hears the song start playing on the jukebox, and soon finds out that Charlie is there. Elvis Presley, Roberta Flack, Dionne Warwick and Erasure are among those who have covered "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'". Hall and Oates' version reached number 12 on the US charts in 1980.

While at the grocery store, she sees a single man and decides to flirt, but when Sarah goes into the next aisle to talk to him, he's gone. She then buys her single chicken breast and eats at home alone, again. "The First Cut is the Deepest" was written by Cat Stevens in the 1960s, and has also been recorded by Rod Stewart.

Sheryl Crow's version can be found on her 2003 album "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow".
