The soundtrack album is based on the film of the same title which starred John Travolta. It was one of the best-selling albums of all time with about 40 million copies sold worldwide, and had a great impact on disco phenomenon in the late 1970s. The album stayed at the top of the U.S. Billboard's album chart for 24 weeks from January to July 1978.

From 1977 to 1978, three of the Bee Gees songs in the album reached number on U.S Billboard Hot 100 Chart. "How Deep is Your Love" reached number 1 in December 1976 and stayed as number 1 hit until the first week of January 1977. In 1978, "Stayin' Alive" reached number 1 on February 4th and stayed as number 1 until February 25th. In the same year, "Night Fever" stayed as number 1 from March 4th until May 6th.

"If I Can't Have You" written by Bee Gees, sang by Yvonne Elliman reached no. 1 on the following week after "Night Fever" on May 13 1978.

In the same album, "Jive Talkin'" reached number 1 spot on August 9th in 1975. In 1976, "You Should Be Dancing" reached number 1 on 4 September.
