Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham, London, on 5 May 1988 and in her early childhood also lived in Brighton for a couple of years before she and her mother returned to London. She showed musical talent from a very early age and, encouraged by her mother, attended the BRIT School, from which she graduated in 2006.

With her early links to Tottenham, Adele is a keen supporter of Tottenham Football Club and can sometimes be seen at their matches. She is active on social media and keeps fans updated on her music, having huge followings on Twitter and Instagram. In late 2022 an announcement referenced Adele's four-month residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip from November 2022, called 'Weekends with Adele'.

'Hometown Glory' has featured in several television shows including soaps 'Hollyoaks' and 'EastEnders', and the UK teen comedy 'Skins', also in US drama 'One Tree Hill', where it gained further prominence.

All of the above four songs were from Adele's '19' album, which enjoyed phenomenal success worldwide, but 'Chasing Pavements' was the most successful. Co-written by Adele and Francis 'Eg' White, it reached number two in the UK charts and charted in the top ten in several other countries.

Her '19' album won Adele her first two Grammy Awards; she won in the Best New Artist category and also won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for 'Chasing Pavements', where she faced stiff competition from such luminaries as Pink, Katy Perry and Leona Lewis. 'Chasing Pavements' was also nominated in two other categories.

All of these songs were from Adele's second album, '21', which was, as may be imagined, extremely successful. She had MTV Video Music Awards nominations in all the choices, but the winning one was 'Rolling in the Deep', which was the recipient of three MTV awards, in the categories Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing.

More recently, Adele performed at the annual British Summertime Hyde Park concert in 2022, headlining the event for two evenings in July to a capacity crowd.

Adele's 'An Evening With Adele' tour began in Manchester, England. Although it initially got off to a difficult start when some dates were cancelled, the tour went on to be a huge success and took in several venues in the USA and Canada as well as in the UK and other Western European countries. One of the most high profile venues was the Roseland Ballroom In New York City. Her penultimate performance took place at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl and, returning to Europe, ended at the Rotterdam Ahoy venue where the North Sea Jazz Festival was taking place.

Adele was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the late Queen's Birthday Honours in 2013 for services to music, which she received from Prince Charles, now King Charles III. Released in October 2021 by Columbia Records, '30' was a chart-topper in several countries. It was 2021's best-selling album in the world and won many prestigious awards including three at the Brit Awards the following year, in the categories Best British Single, British Album of the Year and British Artist of the Year.

Adele's official video of the song 'Oh My God' from '30' was released in early 2022 and received a nomination for the MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction.
