Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Book of Taliesyn
Answer: Kentucky Woman
The second album from the band, its title was taken from the name of a 14th century Welsh manuscript. The artwork was done by John Vernon Lord, who's not to be confused with keyboardist, John Lord, who joined their second line-up.
2. Machine Head
Answer: Highway Star
Recorded in Montreax, Switzerland, a conflagration occurred at a casino here, which, gave the band inspiration to write one of their biggest hits. 'Flare gun' and 'funky Claude' spring to mind! You can also guess the title of the song I am referring to, which is also featured on this album!
3. Burn
Answer: Sail Away
The members of the band appeared as candles on its cover. It achieved gold certification, reaching number nine in the U.S. charts, and it was number three in the U.K. charts. It also introduced David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, who shared vocals, as replacements for Ian Gillan. Hughes also played bass. Coverdale was unknown at this point in time, having sang with a few local bands. Since then, he has achieved great success with his band, Whitesnake.
4. Come Taste the Band

Guitarist Tommy Bolin replaced Ritchie Blackmore on this album. Glenn Hughes suffered from a cocaine addiction during this time, and Tommy died prematurely from a drug overdose in 1976. He was only aged 25. It was the only album by the MKIV line-up.
5. Deep Purple in Rock

This was album number four from the band, and also the first album to be recorded by the MKII line-up, which now included vocalist Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover as replacements for Rod Evans and Nick Simper.
6. Shades of Deep Purple

It is the band's debut album, which was recorded in only three days. It shows how they were influenced by psychedelic and progressive Rock. It failed to impress in the United Kingdom; however, it reached number four in the U.S. charts.
7. Stormbringer
Answer: Love Don't Mean A Thing
Ritchie Blackmore's style became a little more funky on this album. It also was the second one to include David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes sharing vocals. It was produced by Martin Birch and the band members.
8. Perpendicular
Answer: Somebody Stole My Guitar
Steve Morse, the founder of the Dixie Dregs, replaced Ritchie Blackmore on this album. It failed to enter the U.S. charts. However, it reached number 68 in the UK charts.
9. Bananas
Answer: Contact Lost
Keyboard duties were performed by Don Airey, who was a replacement for Jon Lord. It was studio album number seventeen from the band. The song 'Contact Lost' was written for the late crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger, which, tragically, broke apart just seconds into its flight.
10. Fireball
Answer: No One Came
This album gave the band its first number one hit. 'Fireball', in the UK charts. It was produced by its members, and Jon Lord exhibits his usage of the synthesiser on it. It was one of their three albums which reached number one in the UK charts.
11. The House of Blue Light
Answer: Hard Lovin' Woman
Album number 12 from the band. It was the second one upon which the reformed MKII line-up appeared. There was friction between the band members and, therefore, this affected their performance when recording it. It did, however, make the charts in several countries.
12. Whoosh

Produced by Bob Ezrin and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, it was number 20 of their studio albums. The COVID 19 pandemic was responsible for a delay in its release, in the year 2020.
13. Who Do We Think We Are
Answer: Super Trouper
This album was the last one to feature the MKII line-up, which featured Ian Gillan on vocals and Roger Glover on bass, before it reformed in later years: 1984, to be precise.
14. Perfect Strangers
Answer: Nobody's Home
Produced by Roger Glover this, the 11th album, featured the reformation of the MKII line-up. It saw the return of Ritchie and Roger from the band Rainbow, Ian Paice from Whitesnake and Ian Gillan from Black Sabbath.
15. Now What?!
Answer: Après Vous
This album, which was the band's 19th, was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. Its producer was Bob Ezrin.
The tracks 'Above and Beyond' and 'Uncommon Man' were penned in honour of Jon Lord, whose demise occurred in 2012.
