Question 1 of 10
1. Who sang this romantic sonnet?:
"You can see her whenever it rains,
From Rome to New Orleans, dancing on the graves.
Burdened by the heart, she loves her sunglasses after dark.
And every single day her little life falls apart.
She's out to look so macabre and alone.
She's close to hook on her dying."
Hint

Question 2 of 10

Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Who sang this sweet duet?:
"Oh my dearest, the sweet music in the ear.
Albeit, daresay I, the lullaby of an everso dark sleep.
My precious, likest thou what emergeth yon distance?
The throbbing and breathing of life's machinery!"
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Who sang this morbid love song?:
"A creature made of sunshine, her eyes were like the sky.
Rabbit howls like something old as we twist to her lullaby.
The scalple shines in God's sunshine,
Streetlights whisper pain.
Down here near the poison stream, our God has gone insane."
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Who sang this abstract ditty?:
"Hot lines under a rain of drums,
Cigarette props in action.
Dialogue dub, now here's the rub,
She's acting her reaction."
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Who sang this Seraphic tune?:
"Dear Angel, where are your warming wings tonight?
It's so cold outside, won't you hold me for a while?
And Angel, I feel alone and unalive.
The night is frozen, and these tears have stung my eyes."
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Who sang this obsessive song?:
"You seek to fill me with virtues I lack.
I'll turn your pure white wings to pure black.
You've pushed too far and now you've lost control, can't you see?
You thought you were the Master but you're down on your knees.
It's all for the taking, here tonight."
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Who sang this self-loving song?:
She's in love with herself, she likes the dark.
On her milk white neck, the Devil's mark.
Now it's All Hallows Eve, the moon is full,
Will she trick-or-treat? I bet she will."
Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Who sang this creepy tune?:
"I am your child
An unwanted child
I do not care about anything else but me
And you think about killing me
Forget about that

For the rest of your miserable days
Ha ha ha"

For their howling echoes and restart the night?"
Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who sang this romantic sonnet?: "You can see her whenever it rains, From Rome to New Orleans, dancing on the graves. Burdened by the heart, she loves her sunglasses after dark. And every single day her little life falls apart. She's out to look so macabre and alone. She's close to hook on her dying."

Answer: The 69 Eyes - "Gothic Girl"

"Just like a gothic girl,
Lost in the darkened world.
My little gothic girl,
Darkside jewel, are your razor cuts for real baby?"

A Finland born band, these guys spawned a new genre of dark music; Goth-N-Roll. The band is said to be the missing link between The Cult and Type O Negative. "Gothic Girl" was their first gold record.
2. Who sang this?: "Oh no, here it is again. I need to know, why did I choose to betray you? Something wrong with all the plans of my life. I didn't realize that you've been here."

Answer: Lacuna Coil - "Heaven's A Lie"

"Set me free
Your Heaven's a lie.
Set me free with your love,
Set me free."

Lacuna Coil, which translates to "Empty Spiral" in English, was one of the first Italian goth/metal bands to make it big in America underworld. But with Cristina Scabbia's haunting voice, it's not hard to see why. "Heaven's A Lie" was a U.S commercial radio success.
3. Who sang this sweet duet?: "Oh my dearest, the sweet music in the ear. Albeit, daresay I, the lullaby of an everso dark sleep. My precious, likest thou what emergeth yon distance? The throbbing and breathing of life's machinery!"

Answer: Theatre Of Tragedy - "Rose For The Dead"

"Give praise for the blood it bled,
Grant a rose for the dead!
Grant a rose for the dead!"

Though their lyrics are poignant and tragically beautiful, those who know and love this duo are mostly captured by the wonderful contrast in voices. Liv Kristine, with her near-operatic voice melds into a hypnotyzing treat when Raymond Rohonyi lays down his dramatic death-metal growl. Unfortunately, the band parted ways before they released their 2000 album, "Musique".
4. Who sang this morbid love song?: "A creature made of sunshine, her eyes were like the sky. Rabbit howls like something old as we twist to her lullaby. The scalple shines in God's sunshine, Streetlights whisper pain. Down here near the poison stream, our God has gone insane."

Answer: Acid Bath - "Scream Of The Butterfly"

"She smiles like a child with flowers in her hair.
With blood on her hands, into the sun she stares.
She feels it die, I heard her cry.
Like the scream of the butterfly."

This is one of my all-time favorite bands, and this song is in my top ten. From the outback swamps of the Louisiana bayou, Acid Bath's humble following exploded after they recorded "Hymns Of The Needle Freak" in 1991 which lead to their acclaimed debut album "When The Kite String Pops". Dax Riggs, the oh-so-beautiful lead singer of Acid Bath, was once quoted to "contribute the vocal element as if he were the satanic son of Jim Morrison."
5. Who sang this abstract ditty?: "Hot lines under a rain of drums, Cigarette props in action. Dialogue dub, now here's the rub, She's acting her reaction."

Answer: Bauhaus - "She's In Parties"

"She's in parties,
It's in the can.
She's in parties,
It's in the can."

It's safe to say that Bauhaus is the grandfather of gothrock. The band was formed in Northamptom, England in 1978. Originally, the band was called Bauhaus 1919 after the German art movement, but dropped the 1919 from their name in 1979.
6. Who sang this Seraphic tune?: "Dear Angel, where are your warming wings tonight? It's so cold outside, won't you hold me for a while? And Angel, I feel alone and unalive. The night is frozen, and these tears have stung my eyes."

Answer: The Cruxshadows - "The Dying Song"

"Dreams may pass and dreams may fade.
Nothing I love will stay the same.
Nothing ever stays the same."

Try as I might, the only name I could find for the lead singer of Cruxshadows was Rogue, a nickname given to him when he was a young boy. Rogue was performing long before he was old enough to attend concerts of his own. With their elegant lyrics, occasional haunting violin and Rogue's deeply, darkly seductive voice, The Cruxshadows is guaranteed to delight, enrapture and excite their fans for as long as they're willing to play.
7. Who sang this obsessive song?: "You seek to fill me with virtues I lack. I'll turn your pure white wings to pure black. You've pushed too far and now you've lost control, can't you see? You thought you were the Master but you're down on your knees. It's all for the taking, here tonight."

Answer: London After Midnight - "Where Good Girls Go To Die"

"Where good girls go to die, that's where I'll be.
Remembering our love as if it were a disease.
Forget about the future, it wasn't meant to last.
My heart beats slow, my hands are cold.
Oh God, it's the end at last."

London After Midnight was formed in 1990 by singer/songwriter Sean Brennan. With a fanbase mainly in Europe, they became an international hit, and in 1998 they would have the extreme honor of playing with The Cure at the Zillo Summer concert with almost 25,000 fans (and yes, I would have given my left hand to be in the front row.) That same year, London After Midnight produced their most popular album to date, "Psycho Magnet".
8. Who sang this self-loving song?: She's in love with herself, she likes the dark. On her milk white neck, the Devil's mark. Now it's All Hallows Eve, the moon is full, Will she trick-or-treat? I bet she will."

Answer: Type O Negative - "Black No. 1"

"Yeah, you wanna go out 'cause it's raining and blowing.
You can't go out 'cause your roots are showing.
Dye 'em black, dye 'em black.
Black black black black number one.
Black black black black number one."

Born out of New York, Type O Negative is led by vocalist/bassist/songwriter Peter Steele, with a voice that thunders lowly, much like Vincent Price. The band's debut album, "Slow, Deep and Hard" was released in 1991, featuring long, monotone dirges like, "Unsuccessfully Coping With The Natural Beauty of Infidelity." Not everyone appreciated Peter Steele's morbid sense of humor though, once being quoted by a critic who charged him with being "a homicidal misogynist and Nazi sympathizer." Any twisted little Gothling would be a fool to not own at least one Type O Negative album.
9. Who sang this creepy tune?: "I am your child An unwanted child I do not care about anything else but me And you think about killing me Forget about that I will be with you For the rest of your miserable days Ha ha ha"

Answer: Wumpscut - "Womb"

"Billions of women
Were ambushed by me
As I am the unwanted life
And I lurk in your body
And I lurk in your womb"

Ah, Wumpscut...what is there to say? Creepy, that's what. I love him, but he still makes my spine tingle in that "Freddy is out to get me" kind of way. German-born Rudy Ratzinger is the sole founder and artist behind Wumpscut. With his appearant disorders and obvious love for the dead, Wumscut is sure to make young children cry, critics shudder with disdain at his controversial lyrics and Gothlings around the world to sway to his pounding industrial sound and provocative voice.
10. Who sang this sleepy song?: "And if I wake from dreams shall I fall in pastures, Will I wake in darkness, shall we torch the earth? And if I wake from dreams shall we find the emptiness, And break the silence that will stop our hearts? And if I wake from dreams shall we cry together, For their howling echoes and restart the night?"

Answer: Death In June - "Fall Apart"

"And why did you say that things shall fall
And fall and fall and fall and fall apart?"

In 1983 (the year I was born), Death In June issued their first full-length album, "The Guilty Have No Pride". Though they're not underground musical giants like London After Midnight or Bauhaus, Death In June has a small but fierce army of fans.
