Buchanon's voice is similar to Robert Plant's. He has sung classic rock songs like CCR's "Long as I Can See The Light," Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," and Rush's "Working Man" and he sang them all very well. He writes most of the lyrics to Rival Sons' original songs.

Buchanon wants to burn it down to save and avenge all the people who suffered there.

In 2025, wild fires destroyed a lot of California. Suddenly, this became one of the most hated songs in the world. The fact is, this song has nothing to do with wild fires.

Answer: Keep on Swinging

This song is from Rival Sons' third album, "Head Down." The album's title comes from lyrics that can be found in the chorus to its first song and first single, which is called "Keep on Swinging." This song is about constantly working hard until your dreams come true and you make as much money as you need. You'll have setbacks which may make you put your head down, but if you keep trying, you'll eventually succeed.

This charted at number 34 on the U.S. Mainstream rock chart and was frequently used as a closing song at Rival Sons shows.

Answer: Destination on Course

"Destination on Course" is Rival Sons' first attempt at progressive rock. The song starts off quiet but it gets louder later on. There are some wordless vocal harmonies throughout the song which are reminiscent of Pink Floyd's "Echoes." The fact that it was written by Holiday and not Buchanon is probably why this song is so different from most Rival Sons songs.

Answer: Ike and Tina Turner

The song originally appeared on Ike and Tina's 1972 album "Feel Good." British rock band Humble Pie covered this song for their 1973 album "Eat it." Rival Sons covered it for their 2016 album "Hollow Bones." The Rival Sons version is more similar to the Humble Pie version than the Ike and Tina version.

"Do Your Worst" is the opening song on "Feral Roots." It charted at number one on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Chart and the Canadian Rock chart. It also charted at number 15 on the U.S. Air chart and number 35 on the U.S. Rock Chart. In this song, Buchanon seems to be asking the woman for some coitus.

He warns her that a mysterious "stranger," later revealed to be the devil, will take her away and do evil things to her unless she and Jay have coitus right then and there.

Answer: Too Bad

"Too Bad" is a song in which Buchanon is singing to an ex-girlfriend who wants him back. He's letting her know that he does not want to get back with her and she must move on. This song has some spectacular vocals from Buchanon. He sings with anger and also a touch of sympathy for her. The song ends with about a five-second scream from him. His vocals are perfect on this song.

Answer: Shooting Stars

This is a simple song. There's clapping all throughout the song, so it's easy for the listener to clap along and it's also easy for the listener to pick up on the lyrics and sing along. The line "My love is stronger than your hate will ever be" pretty much sums up the song.

This is a prominent theme in Rival Sons songs: the idea that showing love, kindness, mercy, and sympathy to people is much better than anger. hate, and war.

Answer: Nobody Wants to Die

This is an up-tempo rocker. The message of the song is simple: we're all going to die and there's nothing you can do to stop that. The verses of this song are dedicated to someone who started a fire which killed everybody that he or she knew, and then the fire surrounded him or her and he or she probably couldn't escape it.

Answer: Before the Fire

The song "Before the Fire" is on the album "Light Bringer." According to the song, Jay Buchanon used to do a lot of dangerous things that could have ended his life (the song isn't very clear as to what those things are. Could be drugs. Could be driving really fast. Could be sky-diving).

As he got older, he stopped doing these things in order to preserve his health. The fire doesn't seem to be a literal fire, but rather a metaphor for teenage angst.
