Answer: All You Need Is Love

The 'Our World' simulcast was the first of its type as it went worldwide. The audience for The Beatles "All You Need Is Love" included Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithful and Donovan.
2. In 1961, Tezza was ten, and worked in her uncle's shearing shed for 2/6 (25¢) a day and thought she was the richest person in the world. When she next went to Perth, she had over a pound ($2.00) to spend on ANYTHING she wanted! She bought her first ever record, which coincidentally was the first number one Billboard Hot 100 song for Del Shannon in the spring of 1961. Which song was it?

Answer: Runaway

Del Shannon died in 1990 at the age of 55. His real name was Charles Weedon Westover.
3. PSB1969 tells us: The first album I brought was by an Australian band; I purchased it in 1979 when I was in primary school. It was the band's second album, containing songs such as "Cold Cold Change", "Koala Sprint", "Back on the Borderline" and "Stand in Line". Can you guess it?

Answer: "Head Injuries" - Midnight Oil

Midnight Oil became one of Australia's biggest bands with albums such as "Red Sails in the Sunset", "Ten to One", and "Diesel and Dust". Peter Garrett, the band's lead singer, went on to become a federal politician for the Australian Labour Party.
4. When elvislennon was ten years old he purchased his first album with his hard-earned pocket money. It was by his favorite band at the time, Abba. Everyone knows that the band hailed from Sweden, but which member was not born there?

Answer: Anni-Frid "Frida"

Anni-Frid Lyngstadt was born in Ballangen, Norway, and was a successful solo artist in her own right before joining Abba and achieving world-wide fame.
5. This is a song Wyambezi wanted to buy in 1964 but purchased 40 years later! Recorded by Cilla Black, "You're My World" was an international number one hit but failed to make it into the Top 25 in the United States. Who wrote and originally recorded the song in 1963?

Answer: Italy's Umberto Bindi & Gino Paoli as "Il Mio Mondo"

It was Cilla Black's association with The Beatles that got her a contract with Brian Epstein and her music produced by George Martin. Each member of The Beatles wrote songs for her and she maintained a friendship with them through the years.
6. Casey317 purchased his first album even before there was anything at home to play it on! The album, 'Time Out', went on to be the first jazz record to sell more than a million copies, but for which group?

Answer: Dave Brubeck Quartet

Of the seven tracks, Paul Desmond's 'Take Five' backed by Dave Brubeck's 'Blue Rondo A La Turk' were issued as a single in late 1961, with huge sales around the world. 'Billboard' 4th Sept 1961 listed it as a 'breakout single' in four of twenty major American cities. At the same time 'Donald Where's Ya Troosers' was listed in two of those twenty cities. Variety is the spice of life.
7. At seven years old, iCaramba took the bus with her sister to Vogue Records on Hollywood Boulevard and spent her holiday money on "Up to Date", which was the second album released by this made-up "band" that had a hit television show in the 1970s. Who were they?

Answer: The Partridge Family

Although not a purchase I'm necessarily proud of, the "Up to Date" album had a pretty groovy cover. Lead singer and teen idol David Cassidy had to convince the show's producers to let him actually sing the group's songs, rather than just lip-sync them. The Partridge Family's biggest hit was 1970's "I Think I Love You".
8. A day or two after her eighth birthday in December 1962 our UK member Holkham16 purchased her first record with her own money. The record was Cliff Richard singing 'Bachelor Boy', this was released as a double A side disc. What was the partner song?

Answer: The Next Time

Cliff went on to become one of Britain's most successful performers, and is often called the Peter Pan of Pop as he does not seem to change with age.
9. When Gloriabrazil was a little child, before she could read, she asked her father to bring her a record with a history. He was a classical music lover and choose a Russian children´s tale composed for narrator and orchestra. Among thousands of narrators we have Peter Ustinov, Leonard Bernstein, Sean Connery, David Bowie, Alec Guinness, John Gielgud, Jack Lemmon, André Previn, Boris Karloff, Dudley Moore,Charles Aznavour, Christopher Lee, Sting and in Brazil, Paulo Autran. Which of the following did he bring Gloriabrazil ?

Answer: Sergei Prokofiev´s "Peter and the Wolf"

In 1936 Prokofiev was commissioned by the Central Children's Theatre in Moscow to write a new musical symphony for children. The intent was to cultivate "musical tastes in children from the first years of school".
The result was "Peter and the Wolf".
10. When Aussie_Rock was 12 he purchased "Crawl File", a compilation album by Australian Crawl. The lead singer of Australian Crawl, James Reyne, was born in which city?

Answer: Lagos, Nigeria

I initially purchased "Crawl File" because of one song, "Reckless". The album however was full of Aussie Crawl classics which probably contributed to my present day passion for Aussie Rock.
