Carlisle, from Los Angeles, was lead singer of The Go-Go's during the early 1980s, before embarking on a solo career in 1985. "Heaven is a Place on Earth", from the album "Heaven", made number one in both the USA and UK in 1987, and was by far her best selling single.

Fiction Factory were formed in Perth in 1983, and had had a number six UK hit that same year with their debut single, "Feels Like Heaven". They never came close to repeating that success and disbanded in 1987.
