1. "Physical" (Olivia Newton-John) was written by Steve Kipner and Terry Shaddick. It was originally offered to Rod Stewart and Tina Turner who both turned it down. It became Newton-John's biggest hit and cemented her legacy as a pop superstar.

2. "Eye of the Tiger"(Survivor) was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik. It was the theme song for the 1982 film "Rocky III" and the band won a Grammy for "Best Rock Performance by Duo or Group with Vocal".

3. "I Love Rock 'n Roll" (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts) was written by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker. Jett's rendition became her highest-charting hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Jett's version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016.

4. "Ebony and Ivory" (Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder) was written by Paul McCartney and featured Stevie Wonder. The song reached number one on both the UK and the US charts. It marked the first time in McCartney's solo career that he had sung a duet with another major star.

5. "Centerfold" (The J. Geils Band) was written by Seth Justman. It went to number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in February and stayed there for six weeks. It was said that the girls in the music video were students in a dance academy located above the recording studio.

6. "Don't You Want Me" (The Human League) was written by Jo Callis, Philip Oakey and Philip Adrian Wright. It was The Human League's best-known and most commercially successful song. 8. "Hurts So Good" (John Cougar) was written by John Mellencamp and George Green. It was a number two hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was also a critical success with Mellencamp winning the Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male at the 25th Grammy Awards.

9. "Abracadabra" (Steve Miller Band) was written by Steve Miller. The song became a worldwide hit, charting in ten countries and topping the charts in six. In the U.S., the song hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band's third number-one hit in the U.S. along with "The Joker" and "Rock'n Me".

10. "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" (Chicago) was written by bassist Peter Cetera, who also sang lead on the track. It was Chicago's second number-one single after "If You Leave Me Now" (1976). It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

11. "Tainted Love" (Soft Cell) was composed by Ed Cobb. It became a major hit in the US during the Second British Invasion, with the song spending a then record-breaking 43 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100.

12. "Chariots of Fire" (Vangelis) was an instrumental theme written and recorded by Vangelis for the soundtrack of the 1981 film of the same name. Vangelis' real name is Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou.

13. "Harden My Heart" (Quarterflash) was written by Marv Ross. It reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and also hit number one on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. It was Quarterflash's only top-ten pop single in the United States.

14. "Rosanna" (Toto) was written by David Paich. It reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and was also one of the band's most successful singles in the UK, peaking at number 12 on the UK Singles Chart. The song won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and was nominated for Song of the Year.

15. "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" (Hall & Oates) was written by Daryl Hall, John Oates and Sara Allen. It was the only record to hit number one on both the Hot 100 and the Hot Soul charts during all of 1982. This was also the first top-ten hit for the duo in the UK, peaking at number eight on the UK Singles Chart.
