"Only You" had reached number two earlier in the year. "Don't Go" was released in July 1982 and peaked at number three during its 11 week run on the charts. Yazoo consisted of singer Alison 'Alf' Moyet and synth player Vince Clarke. Vince Clarke was previously with Depeche Mode and later also had chart success with Erasure.

I'm not at all sure that 'instinction' is a real word - it certainly isn't in my copy of the "Concise Oxford English Dictionary"! Spandau Ballet released the single "Instinction" in the UK in April 1982. It spent 11 weeks on the chart, peaking at number ten.

The Jam's second UK number one, "Town Called Malice" was released on 13 February 1982. It spent nine weeks on the chart, three of them at number one. The Jam split up later that year and front man Paul Weller (affectionately known in the British music press as 'The Mod Father') went on to enjoy further chart success with The Style Council and then as a solo artist.

I can still remember the first time I heard "The Back of Love" by Echo and The Bunnymen on the radio- it sent shivers down my spine. I can remember the DJ introducing them as 'the pride of Liverpool' and I wondered how I hadn't heard of them before. "The Back of Love" was released on 29 May 1982 and spent seven weeks on the UK singles chart, peaking at number 19. Incorrect answers: "Come On Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners with The Emerald Express was number one for four weeks in August 1982. "Goody Two Shoes" by Adam Ant was number one for two weeks in June 1982. "Instinction" by Spandau Ballet was released in April 1982 and reached number ten.

Released on 16 October 1982, "I'll Be Satisfied" spent eight weeks on the UK chart, peaking at number eight. During the 1980s, 'Shaky' as he was sometimes known, had 23 top 20 singles and was the most successful singles performer in the UK charts for the whole decade.

Released in the UK in July 1982, "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" spent 11 weeks on the singles chart, reaching a highest position of number 18. The song did slightly better in Donna's homeland; reaching number 10 on the US hot 100.

Tricky one hey? Both groups performed on two different records but it is Fun Boy Three and Bananarama that are credited as the artists for "It Ain't What You Do, It's The Way That You Do It", (an old song from the 1930s) while the lead and backing vocal honours were swapped for "Really Saying Something" later in the year. Fun Boy Three were Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Neville Staples, who had previously been part of The Specials. "It Ain't What You Do, It's The Way That You Do It" was released on 13 February 1982, was ten weeks on the chart and peaked at number four. "Really Saying Something" by Bananarama and Fun Boy Three was released in April 1982, also spent ten weeks on the chart and reached number five.
