He had cricketing form in his family -- his uncle, Freddie Calthorpe, was a former England captain. An Old Etonian, Henry enjoyed a limited first-class career as a wicketkeeper/batsman in a two-year stint representing Cambridge University in the late 1950s.

His career as a cricket writer began with the England tour of India in 1963. In 1972, he abandoned print for the lure of radio, and he has been a member of the 'Test Match Special' team ever since (except for a brief break in the early 1990s). Blowers was awarded an OBE in 2003.

His autobiography is titled 'My Dear Old Thing: Talking Cricket'.

Sir Matthew Clive Pinsent was born in Holt, Norfolk in 1970. He won his first Olympic gold in the Coxless Pairs at the 1992 games in Barcelona. He repeated the feat in Atlanta four years later, then added successive golds in the Coxless Fours in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004). The alternatives are all multiple Olympic champions. Seb Coe also won four Olympic medals, gold in the 1500m in Moscow (1980) and Los Angeles (1984), and silver in the 800m at the same Games.

He was born in London in 1956. Sir Stephen Redgrave is Britain's most successful Olympian of all-time, with five gold and one bronze medal to his name.

Edith Louisa Cavell, born in 1865 in Swardeston, Norfolk became a director of the newly established Red Cross nursing school in Brussels in 1907. When Germans occupied Belgium at the beginning of WWI, she stayed on to nurse injured men (from both sides) and to help injured Allied to return home.

She was arrested and charged with harboring Allied soldiers in August 1915 and executed two months later. A statue to Cavell stands opposite the National Portrait Gallery in London. The alternatives are three more war-time nursing heroines. Ruby Bradley was an American nurse in the Philippines during the WWII Japanese occupation. Georgina Pope was a Canadian nurse who served in South Africa during the 2nd Boer War and in France during WWI.

She is one of the fourteen Canadians honored at the 'Valiants Memorial' in Ottawa. Catherine Roy was a Scottish nurse who served in both France and Belgium during WWI.
