Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This gentleman made the comment, "Good morning is a contradiction of terms." You can't help but see his "Garfield" character saying this line too. What author said this line?

Answer: Jim Davis

I know that when I say "Good Morning" it's like, really? Mornings are not good! So I see Garfield laying there, lazy as he normally is saying, "Mornings? Good?, I think not!"

I'm sure that Jim Davis had a bit of Garfield in him as well. "Garfield" has been around since 1978! A whole lot of people have woken up to mornings with comics by Jim.
2. Try and figure out who would say this quote. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?" I'll give you a small, maybe a "Hobbit" clue. Who is this author?

Answer: J.R.R. Tolkien

Tolkien actually put this quote in the book, "The Hobbit". His quotes made you think about what he was trying to say. You'd read or hear the quote, stop, think and read it again. It usually took a couple of times before you finally said, "Oh, that's what he meant."

Tolkien published the book, "The Hobbit" in 1937. He went on to publish "The Lord of the Rings" series as well.
3. This poet brought us many wonderful quotes, but this I feel is one of my favorites. "Morning without you is a dwindled dawn." Who can be quoted as coming up with this?

Answer: Emily Dickinson

Emily lived in the 1880's and died in her 50s. She had written close to 1800 poems!

My favorite poem by her is "If I Stop". I feel that I have not lived my life in vain. I have helped many people over the years and wish to not stop now.

What exactly is a 'dwindled dawn'?
4. This gentleman must have loved the morning, because he quoted it quite often. "An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day", was one of his 'morning quotes'. What gentleman is this quote from?

Answer: Henry David Thoreau

Being a mountain top seeker, I found this quote to be my favorite.

"On tops of mountains, as everywhere to hopeful souls, it is always morning."

Henry was born in 1817, and was an American poet. He had many titles but poetry was one of his loves.
5. This quote sounds reasonable. "Be pleasant until ten o'clock in the morning and the rest of the day will take care of itself." This is true, because I actually finish work at noon. So two more hours is a piece of cake. Which writer made this comment?

Answer: Elbert Hubbard

Elbert was born in Illinois in 1856, but died at sea. He was on the Lusitania with his wife on May 7, 1915, when it went down. Amazing that one torpedo would take the life of such a wonderful writer and artist.
6. This painter not only painted beautiful paintings, like "The Starry Night", but he had a knack for special quotes too. Who made this 'morning' statement? "One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope."

Answer: Vincent Van Gogh

Van Gogh was born in 1853 and died before he turned 40, in 1890.

I was surprised to hear that Van Gogh suffered from many illnesses over his short lifetime. He had seizures, possible bipolar disorder, both lead and thujone poisoning and hypergraphia.

He may have had numerous health issues but he left us with beautiful artwork including, "Sunflowers", "Irises" and "The Potato Eaters" to name a few.
7. This evangelist said that God was alive. He made the comment, "I can tell you that God is alive because I talked to him this morning." There's no doubt in my mind. Who is this God loving man?

Answer: Billy Graham

William Franklin Graham Jr, was born in 1918 in the town of Charlotte, North Carolina. He preached and told the world about God until he retired in 2005.

Not only did Billy preach in person but he also wrote many books including, "Angels: God's Secret Agents" and "Storm Warning" in 1992.

Billy touched many people's lives over the years and can be proud of the fact that he was an outstanding evangelist.
8. This "Friends" star had true love with Brad Pitt for a few years. She even made this statement, "I love that feeling of being in love, the effect of having butterflies when you wake up in the morning. That is special." Who is this beauty?

Answer: Jennifer Aniston

Brad actually dated all of these women and married Jennifer in the year 2000. Their 'perfect' marriage came to an end just five years later. Immediately after the divorce, you could find Brad and Angelina together. Some people felt that they were actually the cause of the divorce.

Brad was a guest star on the television show, "Friends", where Jennifer played the role of Rachel Greene.
9. "Each morning sees some task begun, each evening sees it close; Something attempted, something done, has earned a night's repose." I never really looked at this quote, but it's so true. We have a whole day, live it up. It's never coming back. The second part of the quote is Linkan, but who made the first quote?

Answer: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Henry was one of, if not the most famous American poets. He was born in Maine in 1807. The funny thing is, he was actually born in Massachusetts, but it is now occupied as the state of Maine.

He was famous for creating "Paul Revere's Ride" and "Evangeline". He loved writing romantic stories. He was married twice and lost both of his wives early in the marriages.
10. This funny man came up with this cute morning quote. "If you're going to do something tonight that you'll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late." Who is this "King of the One Liners"?

Answer: Henny Youngman

Henny always held a violin during his act. Why? I have no idea! Henny kept us in stitches with, 'take my wife, please...' We never got tired of him saying that line.

One of my favorites from Henny was, "I was so ugly when I was born that the doctor slapped my mother".

With that, I bid you a 'good morning'!
