1. From a very prominent U.S. family, disappeared in New Guinea in 1961.

Answer: Michael Rockefeller

Michael Rockefeller and his twin sister were born in 1938. He served in the army for six months and then went on an expedition to Dutch New Guinea to study the Dani tribe. During this time he and an anthropologist were canoeing when their boat capsized. Rockefeller attempted to swim to shore and his body was never found.
2. 17th prime minister of Australia, disappeared at a beach.

Answer: Harold Holt

Harold Holt loved the water and in December 1967, he and four companions drove to Cheviot Beach, Australia. There he and one other person decided to go for a swim even though the water was quite rough. Holt went out quite far and disappeared from view. His body was never recovered.
3. Hijacked a plane in November 1971 and was never seen again.

Answer: D B Cooper

D B Cooper boarded Northwest Airlines Flight 305 with a briefcase which he said had a bomb. He demanded that he be given $200,000 and four parachutes. The plane landed in Seattle and Cooper released the passengers. He further demanded that the plane head to Mexico City, and approximately 30 minutes into the flight, he parachuted out of the plane.

He has never been found although a bit of the money was found in 1980 near the Columbia River.
4. American writer and Civil War veteran, penned 'The Devil's Dictionary.'

Answer: Ambrose Bierce

In October 1913, Bierce who was 71 at the time, left Washington to see the old Civil War battlefields. He then entered Mexico and joined Pancho Villa's army to observe, and from there he disappeared.
5. U.S. aviatrix who disappeared over the Pacific in 1937.

Answer: Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart disappeared in June 1937. She wanted to become the first female pilot to circumnavigate the world. She took off with her navigator, Fred Noonan and disappeared over the Pacific Ocean near Howland Island.

Answer: Kyron Horman

7 year old Kyron attended a science fair at his school early in the day on June 4, 2010. He never made it to class and his teacher marked him absent. Later that day, his father and stepmother went to meet the school bus, but Kyron was not on it. He has not been seen since.

Answer: Asha Degree

For reasons unknown, Asha packed a bag in the wee hours of February 14 and left home. She was seen walking along Highway 18 in heavy wind and rain. Several people noticed her and when one motorist turned around and drove up to her, Asha ran into the woods. She has not been seen since.
8. Disappeared at age 12 in Iowa, while doing his paper route in 1982.

Answer: John Gosch

Johnny Gosch left his house early in the morning to start his paper route. He took the family dog, Gretchen with him. The other carriers reportedly saw Gosch at the paper drop where he picked up his papers. His parents began to receive complaints from Johnny's customers about not receiving their papers.

His father went looking for him and eventually found Johnny's wagon full of papers. Johnny has never been located.
9. Mysteriously ran away from Varna Airport, Bulgaria into a nearby forest in 2014.

Answer: Lars Mittank

Mittank went to Bulgaria with friends on vacation. He reportedly had a good time but, on July 6, he got into an altercation while at a bar. Mittank was hurt and was advised by a doctor not to fly home with his friends the next day due to his injuries. On July 8 he went to the airport and was seen sprinting away from it. He has not been seen since.
10. 3 year old British girl who disappeared from Portugal in 2007.

Answer: Madeleine McCann

Madeleine McCann was on vacation with her family. One night she and her siblings were left asleep in their vacation home while their parents went out for a meal with friends at a nearby restaurant. They checked on the children throughout the evening. At approximately 10:00 pm, her mother discovered Madeleine missing. She has never been found.
