Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One-time Beatles drummer

Answer: Pete Best

Sometimes referred to as the "5th Beatle", like several other folks, Best was dismissed in 1962 before the band became famous. He was replaced by a fellow named Ringo Starr -- apparently Ringo lasted just a bit longer. You'd have to look hard to find Pete Best's music, but two of his later bands were named The Pete Best Combo and The Pete Best Band.
2. Soccer great -- 1968 European Footballer of the Year

Answer: George Best

George spent most of his career as a winger with Manchester United (1963-1974); he retired from football in 1984. He came in 5th in the FIFA Player of the Century vote and 6th in the BBC Sports Personality of the Century vote. Sadly, George had a problem with alcohol, including two drunk driving arrests.

He was only 59 when he died in 2005 from a lung infection and multiple organ failure.
3. Nazi Gestapo leader

Answer: Werner Best

Werner Best (1903-1989) was a Nazi war criminal who initiated the registry of all Jews in Germany and organized death squads in Nazi-occupied territories. After World War II he was convicted of war crimes in Denmark, but then was released from prison in 1951. He campaigned for amnesty for Nazi war criminals, managed to escape further prosecution, and lived to the age of 85.
4. Early African American film actor/comedian

Answer: Willie Best

Willie Best was popular in the 1930s and 1940s. He had 77 screen credits--a huge number for an African American at the time-but for all the wrong reasons. While talented at what he was asked to do, which was to play sterotypically lazy, illiterate, or simple-minded characters, his career, along with Stepin Fetchit's, was an ugly mark in the history of American cinema.

He was only 48 when he died of cancer in 1962.
5. British actress who played Wallis Simpson in the film "The King's Speech" (2010)

Answer: Eve Best

Born in London in 1971, Eve has had an active acting career. She appeared in the TV shows "Nurse Jackie" (2009-2013), "First Lady Dolley Madison" (2011), "The Honourable Woman" (2014), and HBO's "House of the Dragon" (2022-2024). "The King's Speech" is probably her most famous film role. And she's had considerable success on the stage, winning London's Olivier Award for Best Actress for the title role in "Hedda Gabler" (2006).
6. Long-time character actor great, including Sheriff Rose P. Coltrane on "The Dukes of Hazzard"

Answer: James Best

Born in 1926 in Kentucky, James Best had an amazing career in a variety of TV and film parts. Folks might best know him from "The Dukes of Hazzard," but he popped up in many interesting films over a 60-year period, including "Winchester '73" (1950), "The Caine Mutiny" (1954), "Forbidden Planet" (1956), "Shenandoah" (1965), "Sounder" (1972), and "The End" (1979).

The list of his TV guest appearances is too long to list, but a few of the more famous shows were "Perry Mason," "Gunsmoke," and "The Virginian."
7. Voice of Jar Jar Binks

Answer: Ahmed Best

You can't blame Ahmed -- he was just doing his job-but Ahmed's character Jar Jar Binks is probably the least favorite character in the Star Wars franchise. Jar Jar Binks had a fairly big role in "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," but the character virtually disappeared from the series after the huge negative reaction to the clownish racial stereotype depicted in the Jar Jar Binks character. Ahmed hasn't had much of a career after that.
8. TV personality ("Celebrity Love Island")

Answer: Calum Best

Calum Best is the only son of George Best. "Wikipedia" refers to him as an "American television personality". He's "American" because, even though his parents were British, he was born in California in 1981. He is a "television personality" because he's managed to remain in the public eye by appearing on several reality shows, including "Livin' with Lucy," "Paris Hilton's British Best Friend," "Come Dine with Me," "Famously Single," "Celebs Go Dating," and "Celebrity Ex on the Beach." To date he has received no Oscars, Emmys, or actual film/TV roles.
9. Australian actress who appeared on the TV show "Home and Away"

Answer: Charlotte Best

Born in Gosford, New South Wales, in 1994, Charlotte played Annie Campbell in 198 episodes of the Australian soap opera "Home and Away." Her other Australian TV series include "Puberty Blues" (2012-2014), "Soul Mates" (2014), and "Tidelands" (2018). She is also a successful model.
10. British actress who appeared in the films "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1934) and "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (1947)

Answer: Edna Best

Actress Edna Best was born in Hove, England, in 1900 and lived until 1974. Besides "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (Hitchock's first version of this story) and "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," she also appeared in "Intermezzo: A Love Story" (1939), "Swiss Family Robinson" (1940), and "The Iron Curtain" (1948). She was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
