Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rebekah

Answer: Mother of twins

Rebekah was the wife of Isaac and the first woman recorded in the Bible as having twins. She had been unable to bear children for a while. Her husband, Isaac, then interceded for her and Rebekah found herself pregnant with twins, Esau and Jacob. Despite Esau being the firstborn, Jacob ended up getting the blessings of the elder son, through trickery and with some help from his mother.
2. Tamar

Answer: Mother of twins

Tamar was married to Judah's eldest son, Er. Er was killed by God due to his wickedness, leaving Tamar childless. As was the custom, Judah then got her married to his second son, Onan, so that she might have children. However, Onan also committed sin in the eyes of God and was struck dead. Judah then worried about his youngest son and gave excuses to delay their marriage.

Instead, Tamar posed as a prostitute and managed to get her father-in-law to give her children. She bore twins, Perez and Zerah.
3. Miriam

Answer: Prophetess

Miriam was the sister of Moses and Aaron. She is often regarded as the first prophetess in the Bible. When Moses managed to free the Israelites from the Egyptians, Miriam led them in song and worship in the desert. She is referred to as "Miriam the Prophetess" in the Torah.
4. Deborah

Answer: Prophetess

Deborah is the only female judge noted in the Bible. She was also called a prophetess. The 'Song of Deborah' recorded in the book of Judges is considered one of the earliest examples of Hebrew poetry. Deborah instructed the Israelite general, Barak, to lead his men in battle against Jabin, the king of Canaan. The Israelites were ultimately victorious.
5. Jezebel

Answer: Queen

Unlike the other women in this quiz, Jezebel is called out for her wickedness. She openly defied the God of Israel and instead promoted the priests of pagan gods like Baal. She was also known for persecuting the prophets of God. She met a miserable death, falling out of a window with her body torn apart by dogs.
6. Abigail

Answer: Queen

Abigail was originally married to Nabal. When David first met Nabal, the former was not yet a king. Nabal was a wealthy man and David sent his men to him seeking provisions. Nabal refused to remember how David had spared his men and livestock in the fields and sent them away empty handed. God struck Nabal dead.

His wife Abigail was described as being intelligent and beautiful. She was later taken by David to be his wife and became queen.
7. Esther

Answer: Bible Book Named After Her

Esther was an orphan who was brought up by her cousin, Mordecai. Through her beauty, she gained the favour of the king and was made queen. Throughout this period, she kept her Jewish identity a secret. Ultimately, she was willing to risk her life in order to save her people from an evil plot. The Jewish festival of Purim is celebrated in her honour.
8. Ruth

Answer: Bible Book Named After Her

Ruth was not Jewish by birth, but her loyalty to her mother-in-law gained her a place in the genealogy of Jesus. A famine ended up taking the lives of all three men in her family including her husband. She refused to leave her mother-in-law and instead returned with her to help eke a living for the two of them.

A kinsmen redeemer from her husband's family was impressed by her loyalty and took her to be his wife.
9. Leah

Answer: Wife of Jacob

Leah became Jacob's first wife through trickery. Jacob was in love with Rachel and in order to win her hand, had worked for Laban for seven years. On the wedding day, Laban switched Rachel with Leah as he wanted his elder daughter to be married first. Leah gave many sons to Jacob but pined for his love.
10. Rachel

Answer: Wife of Jacob

Jacob worked fourteen years to make Rachel his wife, after initially getting tricked by his father-in-law to marry the elder daughter Leah instead. Jacob loved Rachel dearly but Rachel struggled to bear children. Eventually God heard her prayers and she was blessed with a son, Joseph, who became Jacob's favourite as Rachel had borne him. Rachel died while giving birth to her second son, Benjamin.
