Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Genesis 19:4-5 (NASB): "Before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter; and they called to Lot and said to him, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have *______* with them.'" What word goes in the blank?

Answer: relations

The word relations (in this context) means sexual intercourse. God wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of all the evil going on in the cities. The men of the town wanted to have relations with the men seen entering Lot's home, but these men in Lot's home were angels. Earlier, in chapter 18, Abraham had asked God if only ten righteous people could be found that God would spare the city, but not even ten righteous people could be found. God sent the angels to Lot to gather his family together and leave before He destroyed the two towns.

He told them not to look back, but Lot's wife did, and she was turned into a pillar of salt.
2. 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NASB): "*_______* is patient, is kind and is not jealous, does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly, it does not seek its own..." What word starts off this verse?

Answer: Love

1 Corinthians 13 is known as the love chapter. Love is what it is all about. We are supposed to love our Lord, our enemies, our brothers and sisters in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 13:13 says, "But now faith, hope, love abide these three; but the greatest of these is love."
3. Galatians 5:19 (NASB): "Now the deeds of the *______* are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy...." What word goes in the blank of this verse?

Answer: flesh

This epistle is full of old words and I didn't know what they meant so I looked them up in the concordance in the back of my Bible. Immorality refers to immoral and wicked acts. Impurity is uncleanness, often used in reference to sexual behavior. Idolatry refers to the worship of idols. Sorcery is witchcraft. Enmities means feelings of hostility. Strife refers to a quarrel. Dissensions and factions refer to division. Envy refers to jealousy and discontent. Carousing is partying or riotous behavior.
4. Galatians 5:22 (NASB): "But the fruit of the *_______* is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, against such things there is no law." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: Spirit

The author of Galatians says that those who belong to Christ have given up the deeds of the flesh (described in a previous verse) and follow the fruit of the Spirit. Love is one of the key themes throughout the New Testament.
5. Ephesians 1:7 (NASB): "In Him, we have *______* through His blood, the forgiveness, of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished on us." What do we have?

Answer: redemption

Ephesians Chapter One tells of the blessings of redemption. Redemption means deliverance. Through redemption, we can achieve eternal life in heaven. Without redemption, the inherent sinfulness of humans will make that impossible.

The Bible says in Act 16:31, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." This is the Biblical explanation as to how one can be redeemed. It is through faith in Christ.
6. Genesis 6:10 (NASB): "Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and *______*." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: Japheth

From Noah's three sons, all the earth was populated after God destroyed the rest of the world with the flood.

The name Japheth can mean open, enlarged, handsome, or abundant. Japeth was the oldest of Noah's sons. When Noah gets drunk after the Flood, and Ham sees him naked, it is Japeth and Shem who cover their father without looking at him.

Seth is the third son of Adam and Eve. Lamech is the son of Methuselah. Kenan was the son of Enosh.
7. Proverbs 3:12 (NASB): "For whom the Lord *______* He reproves, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: loves

In Proverbs 3 we are told that discipline from the Lord should not be rejected, because this shows us He loves us, and wants to help us become better. The same chapter shows us the rewards of wisdom. It even says the profit is greater than having silver and gold.
8. Proverbs 1:7 (NASB): "The fear of the *______* is the beginning of knowledge, fools despise wisdom and instruction." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: Lord

Proverbs 1 tells us why we have these proverbs or sayings. Some proverbs may be straightforward or they may be riddles or even parables. Later in Proverbs 8, Solomon tells us what it means to fear the Lord: to hate evil, pride and arrogance, and the perverted mouth. A perverted mouth means speaking dishonestly. It refers to a person twisting their words around to distort the truth.
9. Revelation 13:16 (NASB): "And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a *______* on their right hand or on their forehead...." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: mark

The beast in reference here is the Beast from the Earth. Revelation 13:18 says, "Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man, and his number is six hundred and sixty-six."

No one knows for sure what the mark will look like, or how it will be administered. Some say it will be a tattoo, some say a chip, some say the way has not yet been invented. It can only be suspected, but we know, according to the Bible, it will be on the right hand or the forehead per this verse.
10. Luke 9:13 (NASB): But He said to them, "You give them something to eat!" And they said, "We have no more than *_______*, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people." What goes in the blank?

Answer: five loaves and two fish

With five loaves and two fish, Jesus made it possible to feed five thousand men. He looked up to heaven and blessed the food and made it enough to feed them all and they were satisfied and there were leftovers. The Bible said there were enough leftovers to fill twelve baskets.

This miracle, sometimes called the Feeding of the Five thousand, is the only miracle that is recorded in all four Gospels. A second similar miracle is also described by Mark and Matthew.
11. Matthew 27:37 (NASB): "And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, 'This is Jesus the *_____* of the Jews'". What word goes in the blank?

Answer: King

"THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS" was above Jesus' head when they crucified Him and was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, according to John 19:20. Matthew 27 goes on to say, in verse 46, "About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?'"

This is a quotation from Psalm 22, which begins with the speaker asking God why he has to suffer, before asking for His assistance and finishing with grateful acknowledgement of the power of God's love.
12. John 3:16 (NASB): "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten *_____*, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: Son

John 3:16 is perhaps the most well-known verse in the Scriptures. Christian athletes sometimes write the reference: John 3:16 under their eyes, and fans will hold up cards in the stands that say JOHN 3:16 as well.

Jesus tells Nicodemus this when Nicodemus is confused about how a man can be born again. Jesus continues by explaining that God (the Father) did not send Him (Jesus, God the Son) to judge the world, but to "save it through Him."
13. Jeremiah 1 (NASB): "Before I formed you in the _______ I knew you...." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: womb

Jeremiah was picked by God, when He formed him in the womb of his mother, to be a prophet to the nations. We learn this in the first chapter of Jeremiah.

The name Jeremiah means, "Yahweh loosens", "Yahweh will raise", or "God is high".
Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet and pronounced God's judgment upon the people of Israel at that time for their wickedness.
14. Psalm 77:16 (NASB): "The *______* saw You, O God; the *______* saw You, they were in anguish; the deeps also trembled." What word goes in the blank? (The word is the same for both blanks.)

Answer: waters

This is a Psalm of Asaph, who worked during King David's time as a temple worship leader. This psalm was written to provide comfort in times of trouble by helping the people remember the great things God had already done.

Here, he is reminding them of when God parted the Red Sea. This would be a comforting thought to them as it was when the Hebrews escaped from the wicked Pharaoh.
15. 1 Kings 18:25 (NASB): "So Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, 'Choose the one ox for yourselves and prepare it first, since there are many of you, and call on the name of your god, but put no _____ under the ox.'" What word goes in the blank?

Answer: fire

Elijah challenges the Baal worshippers. He has them get their ox ready, and he has one ready. He has them try to get Baal to give them fire, which is why he tells them not to set the fire themselves. He then asks the God of Abraham to give him the fire. He gets the fire with no problem, but the Baal worshippers try and try for days to no avail.
