NBA's Sixth Man Of The Year Award
In 1982, the National Basketball Association recognized the bench players often play a bigger role in a team's success than some of their starting five. They created the Sixth Man Of The Year Award. It was renamed to the John Havlicek Award in 2022.

1. Kevin McHale
Answer: 1980s
Kevin McHale, a power forward for the Boston Celtics, won the award twice, in 1982-83 and again in the following season, 1983-84. The team won three NBA titles in the decade: 1981, 1984 and 1986.
2. Detlef Schrempf
Answer: 1990s
A power forward for the Indiana Pacers in the 1990s, Detlef came from Germany and was one of the first foreign players to become a NBA superstar. Detlef won the award in back-to-back seasons starting in 1990-91 and 1991-92.
3. Toni Kukoc
Answer: 1990s
Toni Kukoc came to U.S. from Croatia and teamed up with Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen to win three NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls in the mid 1990s (1996-97-98). After retirement, Toni worked in the front office of these same Chicago Bulls.
4. Manu Ginobiili
Answer: 2000s
Manu Ginobili was a member of the "Big 3" with Tony Parker and Tim Duncan for the San Antonio Spurs in the 2000s. In 2008, he won the Sixth Man Of The Year Award and was voted Third Team All-NBA. Manu is famous for his Eurostep basketball move and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Latin basketball players of all-time (he was born in Argentina).
5. Lou Williams

Lou Williams was the second player to win the Sixth Man Of The Year award three times! He won the award in 2014 with the Toronto Raptors. Then with the Los Angeles Clippers won it again in both 2017 and 2018. Lou retired with over 13,000 points off the bench, the most in NBA history.
The first to win it three times was Jamal Crawford (2010 at Atlanta hawks, 2014 and 2016 at LA Clippers).
6. Eric Gordon

Eric Gordon, a shooting guard drafted in 2008 from Indiana University, became a major force off the bench later in his career. In 2016 he won the Sixth Man Of The Year Award and led Houston to the Conference Finals where they ultimately lost to the Golden State Warriors.
7. Mike Miller
Answer: 2000s
Drafted by the Orlando Magic in 2000 from the University of Florida, Mike Miller won Rookie Of The Year in 2001. He was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2003, and came off the bench and won the 2006 Sixth Man Award.
8. Danny Manning
Answer: 1990s
Danny Manning led the Kansas Jayhawks to an NCAA basketball title in 1988 before making his way to the NBA (drafted 1st pick overall by the LA Clippers in 1988). He won the 1998 Sixth Man Award while playing for the Phoenix Suns. Danny was the first NBA player to comeback and play in the NBA after both knees had reconstructive surgeries.
9. Bill Walton
Answer: 1980s
Bill Walton had an illustrious career in college and the NBA. Drafted #1 in 1974 after leading the UCLA Bruins to an NCAA title, Walton went to the Portland Trail Blazers and won the NBA title just three years later. He won his Sixth Man Award in 1986 while leading the Boston Celtics to another NBA title.
10. Bobby Jones

Bobby Jones was the inaugural winner of the Sixth Man Of The Year award. Originally a member of the ABA (Denver Nuggets 1974-78), the American Basketball Association, Jones became a member of the Philadephia 76ers in 1978 (retired in 1986). After losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1982, Jones was the perfect power forward compliment to center Moses Malone and small forward Julius "Dr J" Erving. Together they won the 1982-83 NBA title and Jones took home the trophy for best 6th man.
