The others listed had died at least 25 years earlier. An amazing stat, as this was an outstanding feat by a modern day baseball player. Johnson did this with the New York Mets, one season after being traded from the White Sox. Johnson retired in 2000 after 14 seasons. Chief Wilson of the Pittsburgh Pirates, set the 20th century record for hitting 36 in 1912.

Answer: Phil 'Scooter' Rizzuto

Philip Francis 'Scooter' Rizzuto, played for 13 seasons with the Yankees from 1941-1956. This shortstop was the 1950 American League MVP, after being the runner-up in 1949, losing to the great Ted Williams. Scooter went to 9 World Series with the Yankees, winning 7 of them. He was a Hall of Fame inductee in 1994.

The others listed were not pitchers. Gaylord began his career in 1962, with 10 seasons with the San Francisco Giants. From there it was 4 seasons with the Indians, and then a couple of seasons with a variety of teams each. He won the Cy Young in 1972 in his 1st season with Cleveland, and the 2nd in 1978 with the Padres, one season after the Rangers let him go.

He retired in 1983 with 314 career wins.

Before becoming the Atlanta Braves in 1966, they were the Milwaukee Braves from 1953-1965. Going back in time, they were the Boston Bees from 1936-1940. The Bees never finished better than 5th place, led by manager Casey Stengel. They were also known as the Boston Braves, Rustlers, Beaneaters, Red Caps, and Doves.

Amazingly enough, Hammerin' Hank only reached 47 in his career. Also strange, is that he hit 44 (his jersey number with the Braves) home runs, 4 times during his career. Aaron hit 755 home runs in his career. Bonds hit 73 in 2001, McGwire hit 70 in 2001, and Mays hit 52 in 1965.

Barry started his Major League career with the Pirates in 1986. His first of many MVP's came in 1990 as a Pirate. He also won a MVP the following season in Pittsburgh. In 1993, after going to the Giants, he won another MVP. 2001 and 2002 brought him more Giant MVPs.

Answer: Rogers Hornsby

The others listed, retired well under .300. Hornsby was the number 2 man in the 20th century, retiring with an amazing .358 batting average, behind Ty Cobb. He played for 23 seasons. He won 2 National League MVPs, and won the Triple Crown twice.

Answer: Lou Piniella

The other managers, retired at least 15 season earlier. After 18 seasons as a player, and mostly with the Yankees, Lou tried his hand at managing. In 1990, after 3 seasons managing the Yankees, Lou and his Cincinnati Reds won the World Series. From 1992-2002, Piniella managed the Mariners.

In 2003 he became the manager of the Devil Rays. Unable to turn around Tampa's dismal 2002 season, the Devil Rays were 34-62 at the All-Star break in 2003, 26 games behind the 1st place Yankees.
