Answer: Lou Gehrig

The others listed hit over 550 in their career. Gehrig fell 7 home runs short, as did his life due to his tragic disease which he passed away from in 1941. Thirteen of his 14 full seasons in baseball, he hit 20 or more home runs.
2. Of the famous pitching duo of the Dean brothers, which one was the oldest, Paul or Dizzy?

Answer: Dizzy

Jay Hanna "Dizzy" Dean was 3 years older than his brother Paul. They crossed paths and pitched together on the St.Louis Cardinals in the 1930s. Dizzy saw 17 seasons with 150 wins, while Paul played for 9 seasons with 50 victories.
3. Lou Gehrig's last season of baseball was in what year?

Answer: 1939

1939 saw Gehrig's last season with the Yankees. He played in only 8 games. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame the same year, and was the first player to have that honor. He died two years later.

8. The Oakland Athletics began their franchise history in what city?

Answer: Philadelphia

From 1901-1954, the franchise was the Philadelphia Athletics. The Athletics began in 1901 amongst other teams in the new American League. Connie Mack's name was a household name with the Athletics, managing them for 50 years. Mack led the team to its 1st World Series appearance in 1905, losing to the New York Giants 4 games to 2. From 1910-1914, the club appeared in the World Series 4 times, winning 3 of them.

In 1955, the club moved to Kansas City until 1967, then becoming the Oakland Athletics in 1968.
9. Which of the following did NOT have the nickname of 'Smokey'?

Answer: Whitey Ford

Wood was a pitcher with the Red Sox and Indians in the 1910s, Manager Alston was with the Dodgers, and Burgess was primarily a catcher in the 1950s and 1960s. Edward Charles Ford's nickname was 'Whitey'. Ford was an outstanding pitcher for the Yankees.
