Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hail Maryland

Answer: Jayden Daniels

This game was in week eight. After leading for most of 59 minutes, the Commanders gave up a TD within the final minute of the game. They needed a miracle. They made a few nice plays, including a chunk play from Terry McLaurin, to get in position. On the final play of the game, Jayden Daniels scrambled around to his right, and then scrambled around to his left to give the play to time to develop. Then, he threw it as far as he could. Bears defender Tyrique Stevenson tipped it up and then Noah Brown caught it. The Commanders won, 18-15.

The Washington fans, players, and coaches went nuts. This play was named the Next Gen Stats Moment of the Year. It was dubbed "The Hail Maryland" because even though they are called "The Washington Commanders," their stadium is actually located in Landover, Maryland.
2. Reverse hurdle

Answer: Saquon Barkley

On one particular play in a week ten game against the Jaguars, Saquon Barkley ran for about 14 yards. Then, while was looking in the opposite direction of where he was supposed to be running, he hurdled backwards. He went over a Jaguars defender and got himself two extra yards. This had never previously been done in the NFL. The Eagles won 28-23.
3. "He threw him away like a rag doll"

Answer: Lamar Jackson

The best game of the 2024 season in my opinion was a week five battle between the Ravens and Bengals. It was a high-scoring back-and-forth battle that was decided in overtime. In the end, the Ravens won 41-38.

Lamar Jackson fumbled the snap, then picked it up and scrambled to his right. Sam Hubbard, who had tackled Derrick Henry for a safety earlier in the game, ran towards Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson stiff-armed him to the ground, which made the announcer say "He threw him away like a rag doll." He then threw the ball across his body towards the middle of the end zone. Back-up tight end Isaiah Likely caught it for a TD.
4. One-handed TD vs. the Texans

Answer: Garrett Wilson

Initially, this play was ruled incomplete. Replay showed that Wilson had his knee down in bounds. It was the catch of the year in my opinion. Partially because of this play, the Jets overcame Malachi Corley's gaffe and defeated the Texans 21-13 in week nine.
5. One-handed TD vs. the Jaguars

Answer: Devonta Smith

Jalen Hurts threw it to the back of the end zone. It was almost impossible to catch the ball in bounds. Devonta Smith made a spectacular one-handed catch to extend the Eagles' lead to 28-16. They went for two and missed the two-point conversion, but held on to beat the Jaguars 28-23 in week ten.
6. The defensive tackle that intercepted Aaron Rodgers and ran over 90 yards for a TD

Answer: Leonard Williams

The Jets had a 21-7 lead over the Seahawks in a week 13 game. The Jets had the ball deep in Seahawks territory and it looked like it was surely going to be 24-7 or 28-7 very soon. The Seahawks brought extra rushers, but dropped defensive tackle Leonard Williams back in coverage to surprise Aaron Rodgers.

It worked. Rodgers threw the ball quickly to a receiver that he thought was going to be wide open. Williams intercepted it and ran over 90 yards for a TD. This helped the Seahawks come back and beat the Jets 26-21.
7. Front hurdle into the end zone

Answer: Kyren Williams

Matthew Stafford threw the ball right between two 49ers defenders. Kyren Williams caught it and just as he was about to get tackled at the one-yard line, he hurdled a 49ers defender and scored a TD. This cut a 14-0 deficit in half and helped the Rams come back to beat the 49ers by three points in week three.
8. The play that Jim Nantz called "The play of the year."

Answer: Josh Allen

The Bills had a two-point lead over the Chiefs with two minutes and 27 seconds left in the game. It was 4th and two and they were in field goal range. Instead of kicking the field goal, they opted to go for it. Josh Allen made a pump fake and then he carried the ball and ran over 30 yards for a TD, making several Chiefs defenders miss along the way. This TD and the extra point gave the Bills a two-score lead. This got Nantz to say "Ohhh, the play of the year in the NFL."

The Bills held on to win 30-21. The Chiefs were 9-0 going into this game and they were the only undefeated team left. The Chiefs had their bye week in October. The 1972 Dolphins popped the champagne in week 11.
9. Long TD pass on Monday Night Football in week 13

Answer: Bo Nix

The Broncos were deep in their own territory. It was 3rd and 11. Bo Nix threw a deep pass into a VERY tight window between a pair of Browns defenders. Marvin Mims Jr. caught the pass and no Browns defender was fast enough to catch him. The Broncos won, 41-32.
10. A 97-yard TD in week two

Answer: Justin Jefferson

The Vikings had the ball at their own three yard line. Sam Darnold threw a deep pass. Justin Jefferson caught it and outmaneuvered two 49ers defenders to score a TD. The Vikings won, 23-17.
