Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (Chicago Bears) do during the final play of the week eight game against the Washington Commanders?

Answer: Taunt the Commanders' fans

The Bears had a 15-12 lead and the Commanders had the ball inside their own territory. The Commanders needed to convert a Hail Mary to win the game. Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was apparently 100% sure that was not going to happen, so he ran down the sideline and taunted the Commanders fans in the middle of the play. A few Bears fans in the audience reminded him that a play was going on. He ran towards the ball and tipped it up in the air. The ball went the hands of a wide open Noah Brown, who caught it for the TD to give the Commanders the win, 18-15.

After the game, Bears coach Matt Eberflus said that Stevenson was assigned to cover Brown on that play. Not only did Stevenson taunt Commanders fans mid-play, he forgot his assignment. That is why Brown was wide open.
2. What did Dan Campbell (Detroit Lions coach) say to Kevin O'Connell (Minnesota Vikings coach) right after the end of the final game of the regular season?

Answer: See you in two weeks

With their 31-9 win over the Vikings in the final game of the regular season, the Lions clinched the #1 and a first round bye while the Vikings finished with the number five seed. If the Vikings, Buccaneers, and Eagles had all won the NFC wild card games, the Lions would have faced the Vikings in the divisional round. Clearly, Lions coach Dan Campbell thought that was going to happen.

The chances of that happening went down to zero when the Commanders defeated the Buccaneers. The Commanders were seeded number six, making them the lowest seed to advance to the divisional round, so that's who the top-seeded Lions faced in the divisional round. The Commanders made Dan Campbell look foolish for underestimating them as the Commanders defeated the Lions, 45-31.

Even if the Buccaneers had defeated the Commanders in the wild card game, the Vikings lost to the Rams 27-9 in their wild card game, so the Lions would not have seen the Vikings in the divisional round anyway. Perhaps Campbell meant that he and O'Connell were going to meet in Cancun in two weeks.
3. After the Dallas Cowboys committed five turnovers and lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 34-6 in week 10, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said: "You can't win games with five turnovers." Later in the season, which two teams did just that?

Answer: Lions and Commanders

A few hours after Jerry Jones said that, the Lions-Texans game concluded with Lions QB Jared Goff throwing five interceptions in the Lions-26-23 victory. In week 16, Jayden Daniels threw two interceptions, Brian Robinson Robinson Jr. lost two fumbles, and Dyami Brown lost a fumble in the Commanders' 36-33 victory over the Eagles. It was funny to see Jones get proven wrong twice that year.
4. In the week five game between the Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans, referee Clay Martin said: "The runner stepped out of bound before he fumbled the _____." He fumbled what?

Answer: Basketball

Commentator Ian Eagle said that Martin made this mistake because he is a basketball coach at Jenks High School in Jenks, Oklahoma. The Texans defeated the Bills 23-20.
5. What kind of bird flew into Raymond James Stadium (Tampa FL) and landed on the field in week 17?

Answer: Duck

The jumbotron in the stadium and the TV cameras focused on the duck for a few seconds as Ian Eagle said "quack quack." The cameras missed the first few seconds of the next play, in which the Buccaneers blocked a punt and returned it for a TD. This caused fans to chant "Ducky! Ducky! Ducky!" The duck was caught and gently taken off the field after the play.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Carolina Panthers, 48-14.
6. In the NFC Championship game in Philadelphia, what did referee Shaun Hoculi say would happen if the Commanders' defense kept jumping offside?

Answer: The refs would award a free touchdown to the Eagles

The Eagles had the ball at the Commanders' one-yard line and were lining up for their famous brotherly shove, in which the Eagles' offensive line pushes QB Jalen Hurts across the goal line. Desperate to prevent this from happening, Commanders defender Frankie Luvu jumped over the Eagles' offensive line and hit Hurts. The problem was that the ball hadn't been snapped, so the Commanders were flagged for offside.

After that, Luvu jumped over the Eagles' offensive line again, this time Hurts backed up to avoid getting hit. Another offside penalty was called, and Hoculi told the audience that the Commanders were warned that if it happened again, the Eagles would get a free TD.

After that, Luvu nearly did it again but restrained himself, but then another defender went across the line and touched and Eagles player. This drew another penalty. Because it was a different defender who jumped this time and because this defender did not jump over the Eagles' O-line, a free TD was not awarded to the Eagles; but Hoculi told the audience that the Commanders had been warned again that the refs would give the Eagles a free TD if it happened again. The fourth time, no one jumped offside and the Eagles got an easy touchdown.
7. During a week 10 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys (Dallas were at home), a Cowboys fan held up a sign that said what?

Answer: Romo go in

Cowboys' starting QB Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury in week nine vs. the Falcons. This forced the Cowboys to start back-up QB Cooper Rush for most of the remainder of the season (they started third-string QB Trey Lance in week 18). Rush's first full game of the 2024 season was a home game vs. the Eagles, which the Eagles won 34-6. During the game, a fan held a sign that said "Romo go in," a reference to former Cowboys' QB Tony Romo.
8. In a bar in Atlanta during the Falcons-Commanders game in week 17, Falcons fans celebrated Riley Patterson's 56-yard field goal attempt as time expired. What was the problem?

Answer: It didn't go in

It was very close, but it feel just short. Someone had a camera inside a bar in Atlanta and posted the video on X. The video showed the Falcons' fans celebrating Patterson's field goal attempt as time expired in regulation. Clearly, they thought the ball went through the uprights and gave the Falcons a 27-24 victory. Gradually, the fans realized that the ball actually did not go in. The game remained tied at 24-24 as regulation expired.

The Commanders won 30-24 in overtime on a spectacular TD catch by Zach Ertz. As a result, the Commanders clinched a playoff spot and the Falcons fell to second place in the NFC South and out of the playoff picture. The Falcons finished the season 8-9 and did not make the playoffs.
9. In a Thursday night game between the Rams and the 49ers, who was shown on the screen when analyst Kirk Herbstreit said: "There's Trent Williams"?

Answer: Nesta Jade Silvera

Nesta Jade Silvera was a defensive tackle for the 49ers at the time. When he was shown on the screen, Herbstreit said "There's Trent Williams", and the bottom of the screen showed some information about Trent Williams. Apparently, Herbstreit thought that if a man has dark skin and a beard, he must be Trent Williams. The Rams won the week 15 game, 16-6.
10. In a week 18 game between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders, a kickoff by Brandon Aubrey (Cowboys) went out of bounds and did what?

Answer: Hit a cheerleader in the head

Cowboys cheerleader Michelle Siemienowski was okay after the incident and she was even laughing about it. She was less okay when the game was over and her team lost 23-19; and finished 7-10 and out of the playoffs.
