Answer: Larry Doby

After Jackie Robinson signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Cleveland Indians stepped up to the plate and signed the infielder Doby. Although not committing any errors, the Indians moved him to the outfield to make room at second base for the hard-hitting Joe Gordon.

In 1948, Larry committed 14 errors out in the pasture, but he batted .301 with 14 home runs. He also helped the Indians to a World Series win over the Braves. He led the league in home runs twice, and was inducted into the hall in 1998.

He led the AL in runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and total bases. He was player-manager of the Cleveland Naps (Indians) from 1905-1909. He retired in 1916, then was inducted into the hall in 1937.
