Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This Joe the manager was in his fifth managerial season in 2008, but nobody knew him until he took his team to the World Series. Who is is manager?

Answer: Maddon

Joe's first season at the helm was with the Angels in 1996. He and the Angels finished fourth in the AL West. In his first four seasons, and also with the Rays, Maddon never took his team to a better than fourth place finish. 2008 saw paydirt. The Rays improved their 2007 season by winning 31 more games in 2008.

The Rays defeated the White Sox in the ALDS, then the Red Sox in the ALCS, earning them a right to the World Series against the Phillies.
2. This Joe the shortstop was part of a famous phrase in baseball history. The phrase was not "Joe to Evers to Chance". Who was this Chicago Cub?

He became a household name as part of the Big Red Machine of Cincinnati. Joe won the MVP in 1975 and 1976, and also finished fourth in the MVP voting twice. The hall inducted him in 1990.

He did go 117-52 in 11 seasons, but pitched in only 225 games. Like the future Babe Ruth, his bat was wanted more than his arm. Wood retired after the 1915 season, then he came back with the Indians with his bat in 1917.

He retired for good in 1922.
