1. Japan

Costa Rica started into the tournament with a 7-0 thrashing by Spain. They struggled to cope with Spain's attacking dominance and failed to register a single shot on target. The defeat highlighted the challenges Costa Rica would face throughout the tournament.
Costa Rica bounced back with a surprising 1-0 win over Japan in their second match. Keysher Fuller scored the only goal of the game in the 81st minute to give Costa Rica a much-needed boost and keep their hopes of progressing alive.
In their final match of the group stage, Costa Rica took on Germany and despite a spirited performance, lost 4-2. Yeltsin Tejeda and Juan Pablo Vargas scored for Costa Rica, but Germany's attacking threat proved too much.
5. Morocco

Walid Regragui's Morocco were the underdogs in Group F, but they produced some impressive performances. They finished top of Group F with two wins and a draw to progress to the knockout stages, exceeding expectations.
Morocco started their campaign with a strong defensive display in a 0-0 draw against Croatia. They were able to hold off Croatia's attacks to earn a valuable point.
Morocco recorded a stunning 2-0 victory over Belgium in their second match. Romain Saďss scored the opener and Zakaria Aboukhlal added a second goal in stoppage time to boost Morocco's chances of advancing.
Morocco's final group stage match resulted in a 2-1 win over Canada. Goals from Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri secured the victory, ensuring Morocco topped Group F.
6. Croatia
Answer: advanced to round of 16
Croatia, under the management of Zlatko Dalić, entered Group F with the aim of repeating their strong performance from the 2018 World Cup. Their performance in the group stage was solid and consistent. They finished second in Group F and progressed to the knockout stages with one win and two draws.
Croatia started the tournament with a goalless draw against Morocco. Despite dominating possession, they were unable to break through the Moroccan defence.
In their second match, Croatia secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Canada. Alphonso Davies scored early for Canada, but Croatia responded with goals from Andrej Kramarić (twice), Marko Livaja and Lovro Majer.

7. Belgium

8. Canada

In their second match, Canada suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at the hands of Croatia. Alphonso Davies scored Canada's first goal of the tournament early on, but Croatia responded with four unanswered goals to secure a comfortable win.

9. Brazil

Brazil, under the management of Tite, were considered as one of the favourites to win the tournament. Their group stage performance lived up to expectations.

In their second match, Brazil secured a narrow 1-0 win against Switzerland. Casemiro scored the only goal in the 83rd minute, ensuring Brazil's place in the knockout stages.
Brazil's final match of the group stage ended in a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon. Despite the defeat, Brazil had already booked their place in the knockout stages and still topped Group G.
10. Switzerland

Murat Yakin's Switzerland went into Group G with hopes of reaching the knockout stages. Their performances were characterised by resilience and tactical discipline.
Switzerland started the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Cameroon. Cameroonian-born Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the game in the 48th minute to give the Swiss an important win.

12. Serbia
Answer: got eliminated in group stage
Serbia, under the guidance of Dragan Stojković, entered Group G with high hopes but faced challenges throughout their campaign.
Serbia's campaign began with a 2-0 defeat to Brazil. Despite a resilient first half, they conceded two goals to Richarlison in the second half. Serbia had some promising moments but struggled to convert their chances into goals.
Serbia then had a 3-3 draw with Cameroon in their second match. Goals from Strahinja Pavlović, Sergej Milinković-Savić and Aleksandar Mitrović gave Serbia a 3-1 lead, but Cameroon fought back to level the score.
Serbia's final group stage match ended in a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Switzerland. Aleksandar Mitrović opened the scoring for Serbia, but Switzerland quickly responded with two goals. Dusan Vlahović equalised for Serbia, but Remo Freuler's goal early in the second half sealed the victory for Switzerland. 13. Portugal
Answer: advanced to round of 16
Portugal, led by coach Fernando Santos and captained by Cristiano Ronaldo, delivered an impressive performance in Group H and advanced to the knockout stages as group winners.
Portugal's World Cup journey began with an exciting 3-2 win over Ghana. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a penalty, becoming the first player to score in five World Cups. Ghana's André Ayew equalised, but goals from Joăo Félix and Rafael Leăo sealed the victory for Portugal, despite a late consolation goal for Ghana scored by Osman Bukari.
In their second match, Portugal secured a solid 2-0 win against Uruguay. Bruno Fernandes was the star, scoring both goals. His first came from a deflected cross that fooled the goalkeeper, and he added a second with a penalty.
Portugal faced South Korea in their final group stage match, which ended in a 2-1 defeat. Ricardo Horta gave Portugal an early lead, but South Korea equalized through Kim Young-gwon and scored a dramatic winner in stoppage time via Hwang Hee-chan. Despite the loss, Portugal finished top of Group H.
14. South Korea
Answer: advanced to round of 16
South Korea, coached by Paulo Bento, advanced to the knockout stages with one win, one draw, and one loss.
South Korea started with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Uruguay. Both teams created chances, but strong defending and goalkeeping kept the game scoreless. South Korea's disciplined defence was a highlight of the match.
In an enthralling encounter, South Korea narrowly lost 3-2 to Ghana. Ghana took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus. South Korea fought back with two goals from Cho Gue-sung, but Kudus struck again to give Ghana the win.
South Korea needed a win in their final group match against Portugal, and they got it with a 2-1 victory. After going behind to Ricardo Horta's early goal, Kim Young-gwon equalised and Hwang Hee-chan scored the winner in injury time. The dramatic victory secured South Korea's place in the knockout stages.
15. Uruguay
Answer: got eliminated in group stage
Uruguay, coached by Diego Alonso and featuring stars like Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani, ultimately failed to advance to the knockout rounds.
Uruguay's campaign started with a goalless draw against South Korea. Both teams had opportunities to score, but strong defending and goalkeeping kept the score at 0-0. Uruguay's defence was particularly solid, but they lacked cutting edge in attack.
In their second match, Uruguay suffered a 2-0 defeat to Portugal. Despite creating several chances, they were unable to find the back of the net. Portugal's Bruno Fernandes scored twice, including a penalty, securing the win for his team. Uruguay's struggles in front of goal continued to be a problem.
Uruguay needed a win in their final group match against Ghana and then hope the result in the other match between Portugal and South Korea went in their favour. They got a 2-0 victory, with both goals scored in the first half by Giorgian De Arrascaeta, but needed more as they were eliminated from the tournament on number of goals scored, finishing third in the group.
16. Ghana
Answer: got eliminated in group stage
Ghana, led by coach Otto Addo, fell short of advancing to the knockout rounds. They finished fourth in Group H with one win and two losses.
Ghana kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 3-2 defeat by Portugal. André Ayew and Osman Bukari scored for Ghana, but they were outclassed by Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, Joăo Félix and Rafael Leăo. Despite the defeat, Ghana's attacking potential was on display.
In a high-scoring encounter, Ghana ran out 3-2 winners over South Korea. Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus gave Ghana a 2-0 lead, but South Korea's Cho Gue-sung scored twice to level the scores. Kudus then scored the winner.
Ghana faced Uruguay in their final group match needing a win to advance. Giorgian De Arrascaeta's two first-half goals, however, sealed a 2-0 win for Uruguay. Ghana's efforts to break down Uruguay's defense were unsuccessful, leading to their elimination from the tournament.
