2012-13 was adorned with superb displays from a few young Belgian talents such as Romelu Lukaku, Christian Benteke, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, Marouane Fellaini, Kevin Mirallas and Eden Hazard. Hazard came closest equaling Michu's tally with 190 points, however Michu got the nod thanks to scoring more points in the season's final gameweek.

As was the case in the previous season, the French representative was Manchester United pacey left back Patrice Evra. The Serbian was Chelsea's defender Branislav Ivanovic. Liverpool's controversial Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez easily made it to the dream team despite missing a total of 5 matches due to suspensions.

Their sole representative is goalkeeper Joe Hart who did not miss a single minute of the 38 matches and kept as many as 18 clean sheets. Manchester City's manager Roberto Mancini was sacked after their FA Cup defeat.

Leighton Baines, Everton's left back, joined fellow Englishmen Joe Hart and Theo Walcott in the dream team. Of the other three, Liverpool's Stevie G was the closest, but a shoulder injury prevented him from playing in the season's closing two gameweeks and registering a dream team spot which was already in his pocket.

Just like the season before it, 2012-13 will be distinctly remembered as Robin van Persie's season. In what now looks like a farewell gift to legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the Dutch striker was transferred from Arsenal at the start of the season.

He scored 26 goals and delivered 15 assists, helping the Red Devils to restore the league title. This was Manchester United's 20th league title, and little room for imagination is left as to why van Persie was allocated jersey number 20.

After 15 seasons with Bolton Wanderers, Finnish Jussi Jaaskelainen joined West Ham United in 2012-13. His experience and fine form helped his new club to cross their comeback season safely (they were promoted from the Football League Championship at the end of the previous season, 2011-12).

Among a few others, Southampton's prolific forward Lambert, Fulham's top finisher Berbatov and Chelsea's never-ending Lampard scored more than the lowest scoring top defender and would have entered if it wasn't for that policy.
Beausejour, Wigan Athletic's Chilean midfielder, had a good season scoring one goal and assisting nine, but not good enough to be included in this category.

Gareth Bale continued to impress and carried Tottenham Hotspur on his shoulders albeit failing to clinch a UEFA Champions League spot. He was voted Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. With a dazzling total of 18 goals in his debut season, attacking midfielder Michu who arrived from Spanish club Rayo Vallecano, was Swansea City's representative in the dream team.

Welsh clubs in 2012-13: Newport County and Wrexham reached the playoffs final leading to the professional tiers of English football with the former winning. Cardiff City finally made it to the Premier League having won the Football League Championship. Swansea City excelled in the Premier League and won the League Cup.

The only club which could have contributed a yellow jersey was Norwich City. With 152 points, short of a dream team spot, Scottish attacking midfielder Robert Snodgrass was their top-scoring player.
