Against All Odds: Leicester City 2015-16 Quiz

The 2014-15 season was Leicester's first in the Premier League since 2003-04. The team ended the season on 41 points, six points clear of the relegation zone. Interestingly, the team was in the relegation places for most of the campaign, spending over four months at the foot of the Premier League table between November and April.

However, seven wins in their last nine games kept the Foxes in the Premier League, creating the conditions for the miracle season that followed.

Morgan played every single minute of Leicester's rise to the top. Only Manchester United's Gary Pallister (1992-93) and Chelsea's John Terry (2014-15) had previously achieved the feat. Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta became the fourth player to achieve this in 2016-17.

Morgan was never forced to play in goal, as Leicester's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel also played every minute of the season. The captain did not get 20 bookings in 2015-16, but instead three. Morgan did not turn 35 until January 2019, and was 32 when he hoisted the Premier League trophy in May 2016.

Vardy's victims were AFC Bournemouth, Stoke City, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Norwich City, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion, Watford, Newcastle United and finally Manchester United. Van Nistelrooy scored in ten consecutive games at the end of the 2002-03 season and the beginning of the 2003-04 campaign.

The team won each game between 5 March and 10 April, a run of five games. The Foxes did not concede a single goal during this period, winning four of the games by a 1-0 score line. The run ended with a 2-2 draw against West Ham United on 17 April.

Mahrez' career had humble beginnings. Often overlooked due to his slender build, he joined Le Havre's youth system in 2010. Cheap signings such as Mahrez epitomise how impressive Leicester's achievement was. Star midfielder N'Golo Kante was also scouted from the French leagues, joining from the aforementioned Caen.

Ranieri's first Manager of the Month award came in November, after the club won two and drew one of its three games during the month. The Italian had to wait until March to win the award again, after overseeing three wins and a draw, with the team also keeping three clean sheets. Ranieri retained the award in April after another three wins and a draw, with the team on the cusp of winning the impossible title.

Harry Kane ended the season with 25 goals for Tottenham Hotspur. Like Vardy, Aguero netted 24 times for Manchester City. Sunderland's Defoe netted 15 times.

On 26 September, Arsenal won 5-2 at Leicester's King Power Stadium, giving Ranieri's men their first loss of the season. A late Danny Welbeck goal gave the Gunners a 2-1 win over the Foxes on 14 February. Everton lost both meetings with Leicester, losing 3-2 on 19 December and falling to a 3-1 defeat on 7 May.

After a draw with Man City on 29 December, Leicester picked up a 3-1 win at City's Etihad Stadium on 6 February. Leicester drew both of its meetings with Manchester United by a 1-1 score line.

The versatile Schlupp had a breakout season with the club in 2015-16, making 24 league appearances including 14 starts. Schlupp's ability to win ground duels with his good speed and tackling (78% success) was useful in Ranieri's counter-attacking system. Chilwell did win the club's Under-21 Player of the Year Award and made two starts, but did not feature enough to be the club's best young player.

Gray joined in January 2016 from Birmingham City, but only started in one of his twelve appearances in 2015-16. Dodoo made just one substitute appearance in the league, but impressed with four goals in three appearances in that season's League Cup.

Even though every player was instrumental to Leicester's success, only the more noticeable players made the cut. Morgan was in the defence, while midfield maestro Kante also made it. Mahrez and Vardy received the most plaudits for their performances and also qualified for the team.

Leicester had the joint-most players in the team, alongside Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs players Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Dele Alli and Harry Kane all made the team. Manchester United's goalkeeper David De Gea, Arsenal fullback Hector Bellerin and West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet completed the rest of the team.
