Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On the opening weekend of the Premier League, which "big club" did mid-table West Ham United upset 2-0?

Answer: Arsenal

Cheikhou Kouyate and Mauro Zarate both scored to give West Ham 3 points against their fellow London club. This was the Hammers revenge after Arsenal had outplayed them 3-0 in their previous encounter in the previous season, in March 2015.
2. Aston Villa won their opening match 1-0 against Bournemouth. But how many more games did it take them to record their second win of the season?

Answer: 19

Aston Villa didn't record another win until January 2016, Aston Villa v Crystal Palace 1-0. In between these wins, Villa lost a whopping 14 games and drew 5.
3. In October 2015, Arsenal and Manchester United had a highly anticipated clash at the Emirates. What was the final score?

Answer: 3-0 to Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez scored twice and Mesut Ozil once to give Arsenal the 3 points, with all the goals scored in the first 20 minutes. In their previous match, Arsenal had thrashed Leicester City 5-2 and in their next match they beat Watford 3-0.
4. How many goals were scored in the two Manchester derbies in total?

Answer: 1

The first derby finished in a dull 0-0 draw at Old Trafford. The second one was just as dull with both teams together recorded just 7 shots on target, with United stealing a 1-0 win through Marcus Rashford.
5. Who was the only player to score 5 goals in a single match in the 2015-16 Premier League season?

Answer: Sergio Aguero

Aguero scored his 5 goals against Newcastle in a 6-1 win. Wijnaldum almost equalled Aguero's feat but fell short at 4 goals in a single game for, coincidentally, Newcastle United (who beat Norwich City 6-2).
6. Who scored the last goal of the season when Manchester United played Bournemouth on 17th May 2016?

Answer: Chris Smalling

Smalling, playing for Manchester United, scored an own goal in injury time. His mistake didn't matter, as Manchester United eventually won 3-1.
7. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) was the top goal scorer in the 2015-16 Premier League season.

Answer: False

Vardy scored 24 goals in the season, with Manchester City's Sergio Aguero scoring 24 as well and Tottenham's Harry Kane scoring 25 goals. Going into May and each team's final three matches, Vardy, Kane and Aguero had scored 22, 23 and 24 goals respectively. Vardy managed a brace against Everton but it wasn't enough to snatch the Golden Boot from Kane.
8. Leicester City won the league, but which three teams finished in the top 4 and also qualified for the Champions League?

Answer: Arsenal, Tottenham Hotpsur, Manchester City

Manchester United and West Ham finished 5th and 7th respectively.
9. How many points did Aston Villa record for the season?

Answer: 17

Finishing bottom of the league, Aston Villa recorded half the amount of points that the 19th placed team di (Norwich City). A proud club, Aston Villa were ranked 7th in the all-time Premier League table and are one of only 5 English clubs to win the European Cup (now the Champions League). Before being relegated in 2016, Villa had spent 104 seasons cumulatively in the highest division of English football, second only to Everton.
10. Managing Premier League teams is not easy. How many Premier League managers resigned, ran out of contract or were sacked mid-stream, when the season hadn't finished?

Answer: 9

Dick Advocaat was the first Premier League manager in 2015-16 to lose his job after he resigned from his Sunderland managerial position in October 2015. The other eight Premier League managers to vacate their positions are listed here in chronological order along with their former club and when they left their jobs.

Oct 15 : Tim Sherwood - Aston Villa
Dec 15 : Garry Monk - Swansea
Dec 15 : Jose Mourinho - Chelsea
Mar 16 : Steve McClaren - Newcastle United
Mar 16 : Remi Garde - Aston Villa
