Hinske, a 2009 Yankee primary infielder, was on the 2007 Boston Red Sox when they won the World Series against the Rockies. 2007 saw Eric in a Tampa Bay Rays uniform in their series loss to the Phillies. Hinske was a Yankee in 2009.

4. The first pitch of the series was delivered by the Yankees' C.C. Sabathia, and it went to the Phillies' Jimmy Rollins. What was the result of that first pitch?

Answer: Rollins bunted

In a surprise move, Rollins bunted down the first base line on the very first pitch of the series, but was put out quickly by Mark Teixeira. Rollins was third in the 2001 voting for the Rookie of the Year Award, then won the NL MVP in 2007.

5. Who hit two game one home runs to make the difference in the game?

Answer: Chase Utley

It was Utley's two home runs off Yankee pitcher C.C. Sabathia. Chase became only the second player in history to bat left-handed, hit two World Series home runs in one game, and off left-handed pitchers. The first was Babe Ruth. Reggie Jackson hit three in a game in 1977, but all off right-handed pitchers.

The Phillies had a 2-0 lead going into the eighth inning, then doubled their lead on a bases loaded single by Raul Ibanez. The ninth inning saw the Phillies' Shane Victorino add another run with a single, giving Philadelphia a 5-0 lead. Ryan Howard knocked in another run, giving the Phillies a 6-0 heading into the ninth inning.

The Phillies won game one, 6-1.

6. Which Phillies pitcher threw a complete game masterpiece in game one to take the win?

Answer: Cliff Lee

A ninth inning throwing error by Jimmy Rollins gave the Yankees their only run, and that's how it ended, 6-1. The Yankees avoided being shutout for the first time in Yankee history, in the first game of any World Series. Cliff Lee went the distance for the Phillies by throwing a gem, striking out 10, throwing 122 pitches, and taking the win. Lee came from the Indians in mid-season, and his combined 2009 regular season record was 14-13.

7. Game two of the World Series saw the Phillies manager take somewhat of a controversial decision by starting which pitcher, who had gone 5-6 with the NY Mets in 2008, and had not pitched in a postseason game in five seasons?

The others were all retired in 2009. Pedro Martinez, pitching a fabulous first five innings had a 1-0 lead, then gave up a solo home run to Mark Teixeira of the Yankees to tie it up at 1-1 in the fourth. By the sixth inning, Pedro had six strikeouts, including striking out Jeter and A-Rod two times each, but not before giving up a solo home run to Hideki Matsui in the sixth.

The Yankees won game two, 3-1.

8. Game three saw the first umpiring replay review in the history of World Series competition, when a batted ball struck a television camera in the right field bleachers. Who hit the ball?

Answer: Alex Rodriguez

Jayson Werth started the scoring in the second inning, and by the end of the inning, it was Philadelphia up 3-0. In a bizarre play in the fourth inning by Yankee Alex Rodriguez with one on, he hit a double which scored a run. However, after the umpiring crew went into the tunnel to review it, they came back with the home run gesture for Rodriguez.

The ball had hit a TV camera near the right field foul pole and the ball stayed on the field. By the time the fourth inning had ended, the Yankees led 5-3.

The Yankees went on to win game three, 8-5.

9. In the game four thriller, who stole second, then third, and scored on an Alex Rodriguez double to win it for the Yankees?

Answer: Johnny Damon

With two outs and the scored tied at four, Damon took the Phillies' Brad Lidge to a full count while fouling off many pitches. He finally singled to left field. With Teixeira at-bat and the Yankees shifted to the right side, Damon stole second, stood up after his slide, then took off for third with nobody anywhere near the base. Teixeira was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. With Mark on first, that brought up Rodriguez, who doubled to left field.

The Yankees went on to win the game 7-4. Joba Chamberlain took the win for his one inning in relief, and Philadelphia's Brad Lidge took the loss. Upon completion of game four, the Yankees led the World Series three games to one.

10. In game five, the Phillies started Cliff Lee, who pitched a masterpiece in game one. The Yankees opened up the scoring for the game with a RBI double in the top of the first inning via Alex Rodriguez. Which Phillie came back with a three-run home run to answer the call in the bottom of the first inning?

The others listed were all Phillies pitchers. At the time, A-Rod had only batted .043 with his first inning double that scored Johnny Damon. Utley came up after a single by Jimmy Rollins, and after Shane Victorino was hit by a pitch. Utley's fourth home run of this World Series certainly answered the call.

By the end of the third inning, it was Phillies 6, Yankees 1. The Phillies would go on to win game five, 8-6.

11. Which player in game five of the series, tied a Major League record with Reggie Jackson, by hitting five home runs in one World Series?

With the Phillies' Utley, he tied Jackson's record in the seventh inning with his fifth home run of the series. At that point in the game, the Phillies led game five, 7-2. The Phillies would go on to win the game, 8-6. On a side note with the next batter in the same inning, Philadelphia's Ryan Howard tied a record for most strikeouts in one World Series by striking out for his 12th time. Howard tied Willie Wilson's record with the Kansas City Royals, set in 1980.

12. Game six of the 2009 World Series saw two veterans start off the mound. For the Yankees it was 37-year old Andy Pettitte to go up against the Phillies' 37-year old Pedro Martinez. Pedro Martinez gave up the first run of the game with a two-run home run to which Yankee player?

Answer: Hideki Matsui

Other than Posada, the others were Phillies. It was in the bottom of the second inning when Martinez dished up the two-run home run to Matsui. Carlos Ruiz would hit his fourth career triple in the top of the third inning, and would eventually score, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Yankees.

However, Matsui would come back in the bottom of the third inning to hit a base-loaded single to score two more runs for the Yankees, and they led at 4-1 after three innings. At the end of five innings, Matsui would tie a World Series record for having six RBIs in one game of a World Series, with the Yankees leading the Phillies 7-1.

13. The 2009 World Series saw the Phillies trying to repeat as World Series champions in consecutive seasons, but failed. Who was the last team to win consecutive World Series titles?

Answer: New York Yankees

The Yankees three-peated in 1998, 1999, and the 2000 season. In 12 games of those three World Series, the Yankees lost only one game total. They defeated the Padres and Braves four games to none, then the Mets four games to one in 2000.

14. Who was the 2009 World Series MVP?

Answer: Hideki Matsui

Matsui batted .615 in the six games. He hit three home runs, had eight RBIs, and six of those RBIs in the game six final. It would be interesting with Matsui's contract expiring at the end of the season, where his future would be.

15. Which pitcher gave up the most hits in the series?

Answer: Cliff Lee

Lee was the only Phillie who gave up hits in double-figures with 13. C.C. Sabathia of the Yankees gave up 11. Pettitte gave up nine, Burnett eight, and Hamels five.
