The episode began with Locke lying down on the beach and he opened his eyes up some more and started to get up a little bit. The engine still revved up and was sucking things into it but he just laid there on the beach. He then noticed that his show was off his foot but within arm's reach so he grabbed it and put it back on his foot.

Near the beginning of the episode, Vincent the dog started to get into a barking fit and Walt and Michael had a hard time calming him down. Michael noticed how Vincent woke up both Shannon and Boone so he apologized to them. Jin and Sun were also awakened by Vincent's constant barking.

As Vincent continued to bark, the other survivors heard a rumbling in the jungle and they all wondered what it could be. Jack commented that it was possible that Sawyer was in the jungle but Sawyer said he was right behind him. This was when Sawyer cursed at Jack and called him a bad name but Jack ignored him.

As the opening credits rolled, Kate saw Sayid and sat down by him at the beach and told him it looked like she was not the only one who could not sleep the previous night. Sayid responded that he had better things to do with his time rather than collect firewood. Kate told him it looked like he did not agree with Jack but Sayid did not respond back to her regarding his opinion of Jack.

While the opening credits rolled, Hurley told Sawyer to hand over a bag of food and Sawyer refused to do it. Hurley started to attack Sawyer and said there were other people who needed the food but Sawyer said perhaps Hurley should not eat too much of it. Hurley told Sawyer he was lying about his eating a lot of the food so Jack and Boone then told them both to cut it out.

Hurley gave Jack the bad news that there was no food left since it was all eaten so then Sayid interjected and said they could find food on the island. He alerted all the passengers to the fact there were plenty of things they could use for sustenance. Sawyer asked how they would find those things of sustenance so Sayid said so Locke interrupted and said they hunt for the food.

Kate was seen with a knife since Locke encouraged all the survivors to help him hunt boar on the island and Jack came up to talk to her. Kate hinted how it was not her first time hunting boar so Jack asked her why she always appeared to "sign up" to go for a hike into what he called the "heart of darkness." Jack reminded her she knew what was in the jungle but Kate informed him she actually did not know.
