Crossing Over - One Series to Another Quiz
The number of series in the "Star Trek" universe provides much scope for crossovers. In our first attempt at a fill-in-the-blanks quiz, can you put the actors that have made crossovers in the right spaces?
The shared universe of "Star Trek" allows for the stars of one series to appear as their well known characters in other series as well. The first such appearance came when appeared in the first episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation". He was subsequently followed first by , and then .
Three series were set in the 24th century, providing more scope for crossovers, with the first to do so. Before "Star Trek: The Next Generation" came to an end, and (who was the first person to appear in all 24th century series) also made crossover appearances.
During the period that "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager" were being broadcast in parallel, both (who also appeared in all three shows) and made crossover appearances, but not strictly as their own characters. Similarly, made a crossover appearance both as his own regular character and the other that he also played - this was the year after he also appeared in "Star Trek: First Contact".
Although one actor from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" appeared in the first episode of "Star Trek: Voyager", the highest number of crossover appearances from a regular cast member came when from "Star Trek: The Next Generation appeared three times in "Star Trek: Voyager". A further appearance came when appeared in and directed the 100th episode of "Star Trek: Voyager".
While most crossover appearances in the "Star Trek" universe came when actors from one series played their regular characters in another, three actors - Jonathan Frakes, Tim Russ and Robert Picardo - made more unusual crossover appearances as characters other than the ones they were known for playing.
Frakes appeared in "Defiant", an episode from season three of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", playing Thomas Riker, a transporter created duplicate of William Riker who first appeared in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Second Chances". Frakes subsequently appeared as William Riker in the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Death Wish".
Tim Russ appeared in the "Deep Space Nine" episode "Through the Looking Glass", set in the so-called 'Mirror Universe', playing that universe's version of his character, Tuvok. Robert Picardo played a version of his regular character, the Emergency Medical Hologram, and the EMH creator, Dr Lewis Zimmerman, in the "Deep Space Nine" episode "Dr Bashir, I Presume?".
