Catherine O'Hara agreed to play Moira in the presentation pilot for the show but when it was picked up, she wasn't interested in playing the role on an ongoing basis. She eventually agreed after Dan Levy proposed she sign on for just the first year and they could then revisit her involvement after that.

Vivien's storylines in 'Sunrise Bay' include being possessed by the spirit of her father, having a ghost as a lover, discovering a time machine in a broom closet, and being trapped inside a crystal. Moira also did double duty in one season of the show, playing both Vivien and Vivien's brother.

Moira fills out Alexis' community service papers except for a single field: her middle name. It quickly becomes clear that neither Moira nor Johnny can actually remember the middle name they blessed their daughter with. The names Moira and Johnny think it might be are Anna, Emma, Hannah, and Elsbeth, but Alexis says that none of these are correct. We find out in a later episode that Alexis' middle name is actually Claire.

The acting job is Moira's first for some time and she is excited about the opportunity. Before the shoot, Johnny makes her nervous and when she starts tripping over her words in front of the camera her performance quickly deteriorates. Moira ends up locking herself in her trailer and drinking to excess until Johnny returns to the set to give her a pep talk.

Johnny asks Jocelyn (via Roland) to invite Moira to her "annual charity fundraiser" which just so happens to fall on the same night as Moira's birthday. The plans go awry somewhat when Moira insists on helping Jocelyn with the event planning.

After David, Alexis and Johnny reminisce about the chicken enchiladas that someone called Adelina used to make for them, Moira claims that the dish was actually her mother's recipe and that she made it for them "all the time". She then co-opts Jocelyn's kitchen and enlists David's help to try and prove her point by cooking them for her family's dinner that night.

Jocelyn doesn't like what the campaign is doing to her: road rage, sleep-deprivation, and an inability to get through an episode of 'Masterchef Junior' without crying. This results in her dropping out of the race.

Although initially thrilled that she 'won', Johnny reminds Moira that it's a 4 year term and she'll be working with Roland every day resulting in Moira having second thoughts saying, "Oh John, what have I done?"

Moira posed for some "very tasteful nudes" with Richard Avedon in the 1970s and she believes Jocelyn has alluded to them during her town council electoral campaign. Reluctantly both Stevie and David try and find them at her behest but they appear to have been lost much to Moira's dismay.

To prove that David isn't favoured over Alexis, Moira invites her daughter to lunch only to realise that she doesn't know what the two of them would talk about. Moira therefore writes down some questions which she intends to casually drop into conversation.

At lunch, Alexis catches her mother reading the prepared questions and, after a sentimental moment, turns the questions (including the favourite season one) back onto Moira.

Moira had a playhouse theatre in Pasadena named after her but when they choose to replace Moira's name with the name of a volunteer usher, Johnny encourages the town council to name a flower garden after Moira in an effort to soften the blow.

The rec centre is named after Ronnie and Bob's name graces a bench.

Although Alexis doesn't initially want any of her family members to attend her high school graduation, she does later tell Moira that it's not too late to attend if she wanted to. Although Moira has since made other plans with the Jazzagals, she evidently (off screen) convinces them to change plans and perform 'Baby, I'm Yours' at the high school graduation instead.

Jocelyn is very excited about being called up for jury duty and the potential to stand in front of a judge. In her words: "I'd feel like I'm on 'The Voice'!" On the other hand, Moira intends to try and get excused - that is until she discovers that the case before the court is very similar to the crime committed by the Rose family's business manager which led to them losing their wealth and ending up in Schitt's Creek.

Jocelyn is initially set to direct the show but Moira requests to sit in on the auditions and Jocelyn is more than happy to oblige. After Moira essentially directs the hopeful actors throughout the day, Jocelyn encourages her to take over as director.

Although she's concerned it will make her a "quadruple threat", Moira accepts with the proviso that Jocelyn stays on as assistant director.

Moira is livestreaming on Interflix's account when she comes into Rose Apothecary and although she puts the phone down, she doesn't stop recording before doing so. She then goes on to have a conversation with David and Patrick about the former wetting the bed the night before.

After Alexis discovers that Moira's co-star Clifton Sparks had her written off the show due to jealousy, Moira tells the producer that she'll only reprise her role if Clifton's character is written off the show, she gets more money than initially offered, and if she's given a diamond tennis bracelet.
