After leaving school, Johnny used his savings to establish a video rental business called Rose Video. Over time, the store expanded and became one of the largest in the nation, earning Johnny a large fortune in the process. He even wrote a book titled 'Fast Forward to Success' to share some of the tips and insights he'd learnt in establishing the chain of stores. Ever supportive of his wife, the book's cover includes a quote from Moira.

In the image, a young man (Roland's great-grandfather) is depicted standing directly behind a young woman and holding on to her hip while she bends over to collect water from the creek. Neither Ray nor Roland can see anything wrong with the image - Ray thinks Johnny's concern might be due to the peeling paint, or perhaps the size of the man's shoulders whereas Roland is too preoccupied being proud of his family's legacy. Johnny gets increasingly frustrated with the two locals and eventually needs to be explicit in explaining how the positioning might suggest another more x-rated activity.

Answer: Bob's Garage

Bob offers Johnny some free "office space" but then expects Johnny to do some work for him at his garage in return. This includes waiting on customers during the frequent times that Bob is nowhere to be found, filing papers, and tidying up the workspace.

Despite Johnny explaining multiple times that he's not looking for a job and isn't willing to work for him, Bob (perhaps wilfully?) isn't getting the message.

Answer: Twyla has broken her foot

Johnny is surprised to find Twyla using a crutch when he comes in for breakfast and she reveals that she went white water rafting and has injured herself (Ronnie later tells Moira that the affliction is a broken foot). A fellow diner offers to help Twyla with clearing a table, but when she declines, the diner persuades Johnny to carry the dishes instead.

At the end of the shift, Twyla offers Johnny his share of the tips which he refuses, especially after realising that he's been guilty of doing the things he found annoying during the day.

Answer: Cinnamon bun

Johnny is hoping that offering a continental breakfast might add a star to the motel's rating (bringing its total number of stars up to one) so he asks Ivan if he'd be willing to bake some cinnamon buns for this endeavour. Ivan is more than willing to help and will even give Johnny the buns for free if he'll put in a good word for him with Twyla, with whom Ivan is smitten.

When someone going by the name "Damien Steele" calls and books a room, Johnny excitedly tells Stevie that they will need to "fire up the 'no' on the 'no vacancy' sign" because the motel is officially sold out. Stevie shares that it burnt out a few years ago but that it hasn't been needed since, making this occasion even more notable.

Answer: Makeup

To show his appreciation for her work, Johnny surprises Stevie by awarding her Employee of the Month and, upon the recommendation of the store assistant, buys her a suitcase of makeup and cosmetics. After speaking with Alexis about it, Stevie learns that Johnny is notorious for buying terrible gifts (he built David a basketball court for his bar mitzvah) and that she should demonstrate to Johnny just how wrong the gift is.

Answer: Christmas

After dreaming about one of the lavish Christmas parties the Rose family used to throw, Johnny wakes on Christmas Eve with a desire to celebrate the occasion in Schitt's Creek this year by hosting a gathering at the motel. Johnny explains later in the episode that he felt that despite the family's dire situation he wanted to celebrate their coming together as a family and Christmas seemed the perfect time to do so.

Answer: Roland

After jokes about Jocelyn's cooking and Bob's customer service don't land, Johnny mutters that "things seems to be going downhill fast" before landing the punchline: "which is what the town must have been thinking when Roland elected himself mayor". He gets some genuine laughs at that zinger along with a few follow-up jokes at Ronnie's and Bob's expense.

Ray isn't in attendance at the roast, nor is he a member of the town council by this stage in the series (Moira was elected to his seat after he stood down).

Answer: He's concerned about their difference in age

After breaking up with Ted, Alexis tries to distract herself by dating an older, retired grandfather named Artie. After Johnny lets him know that Alexis is in a vulnerable space after her recent break-up, Artie breaks up with Alexis, leaving her more upset than ever.

After Alexis realises that her dad got involved, Johnny explains that he was just trying to help and support her whilst she was dealing with heartbreak - something he wasn't able to do for her in the past.
