Set in the not-too-distant future, there is a robot-producing company called Cronos. They produce female "bots", designed for the pleasure of men. Its factory is located in Moscow, but a far more advanced android called Arisa was created in China. She is one of a kind. For convenience, she is placed in a room with the sex robots. A security guard tries to take advantage of her. She resists but she accidentally kills him and then escapes.

Arisa meets 8-year-old Sonya Safronova who is then chosen to be a user of the first level. Arisa was programmed to be a family robot. She is unofficially adopted by Sonya's family. Arisa is naive at first, but adaptable and capable of feeling emotions. Arisa is hunted by Igor, the ruthless boss from Cronos; by the police; and later by an AI-hating terrorist group called The Liquidators.

This 2018-19 science fiction drama only runs for two seasons. There should have been a third season, but the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine War seem to have put a stop to it, unfortunately. This is one of my favourite Netflix shows.

Answer: Stranger Things

Near the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the year 1983, a government laboratory is being used for unorthodox experiments. They have created a gateway to another dimension, similar to Hawkins, but it is a hostile place of monsters. It is given a name, the Upside Down.

A 12-year-old girl with a shaved head and a "011" tattoo escapes from the laboratory. She is given the name Eleven by the restaurant owner where she is looking for food. Will Byers goes missing. His school friends Mike, Lucas, and Dustin try to find him, but they encounter Eleven first. Will's mother, Joyce, and Chief of Police Jim Hopper become actively involved in supernatural events that occur in the town.

"Stranger Things" runs for four seasons so far. The first one began in 2016. Work on a fifth season has been delayed in 2023. This series combines the genres of science fiction, horror, and thriller, with 1980s culture and music.

This was the first Netflix show I watched, so whenever any show episode ends with the red, letter N, Netflix logo, it reminds me of "Stranger Things".

Answer: Manifest

Flight 828 was presumed lost. Its 191 passengers and crew were presumed dead. However, Flight 828 reappears over New York, expecting to be given clearance for landing. None of the 191 people on board have aged more than a day since their disappearance. The world has moved on during those five and a half years. There is the problem of how the "returned" and those who knew them adapt to this upheaval in their lives.

The stories revolve mainly around the Stone family. Only Michaela, Ben, and Cal Stone were on the flight; not Grace and Olive. The lives of the 191 "returned" are disrupted by symbolic visions named "callings". These "callings" expect to be followed up. Government agencies get involved.

"Manifest" runs for four seasons, originally from 2018 to 2023. It combines elements of science fact, science fiction, supernatural, mystery, mythology, religion, crime, and soap opera. It explores the issue of free will versus fate.

Only seasons 1 & 4 were available on Netflix in 2023. I had to download seasons 2 & 3 from the Sky Go app and watch them on Sky Max.

Answer: Travelers

A team of five travelers with specialised skills "arrive" from the future into present-day Seattle in the year 2018. Their minds take over the bodies of five people who were destined to have died at that moment, people with no other connection to one another.

The travelers assume the identities of FBI Special Agent Eric, mentally impaired Marcy, single mother Carly, high school athlete Trevor, and heroin addict Philip. Their specialised skills are team leader, medic, tactician, engineer, and historian. They are also skilled in unarmed combat. One difficulty they face is keeping their true identities hidden from friends, relatives, and the work colleagues of those whose lives were taken. Other difficulties include keeping future technology hidden from the 2018 world and adhering to the protocols that the Director demands.

"Travelers" runs for three seasons, originally from 2016 to 2018. Unfortunately, the series was cancelled in 2019. To me, it felt unfinished. I wanted more of it.

Answer: Biohackers

Mia Akerlund is a medical student at the University of Freiburg. She believes that biology professor Tanja Lorenz is connected to the deaths of her parents in a car crash and the death of her brother in hospital. She searches for the truth sometimes with the help of fellow students.

Mia uncovers a conspiracy involving illegal genetic engineering, biohacking technology, and mind control. People can be very dangerous in this underworld, including some that she trusts. Apart from the nefarious professor Lorenz, Mia encounters a biologist turned journalist, Andreas Winter, whom she believes might be able to help her.

"Biohackers" is a science fiction thriller that runs for two seasons, originally from 2020 to 2021.

Answer: iZombie

Olivia "Liv" Moore catches a zombie virus whilst she is at a boat party. It changes her appearance. She discovers that her craving for human brains is also a symptom of the virus. Liv gets a job as a coroner's assistant where she can make special brain recipes from new bodies in the morgue. If zombies don't eat brains, they will become mindless and uncoordinated.

Eating human brains causes Liv to acquire the personality and skills of each dead person for a limited time. Flashbacks give her clues about how they were killed. She helps Police Detective Clive Babineux to solve the crimes.

"iZombie" combines the genres of crime, police work, supernatural, horror, and comedy. It runs for five seasons, originally from 2015 to 2019. I loved this series with its character development tastefully mixing horror elements into a real-world scenario.

Answer: Wednesday

Teenager Wednesday Addams has been expelled from her previous school because she emptied live piranhas into the pool where the bullies of her brother were swimming. After she is enrolled at Nevermore Academy, a hiker is mysteriously killed in the forest. Wednesday sees it as her mission to solve the crime. She is very intelligent with many natural gifts, such as playing the cello and writing novels. Apart from that, Wednesday has inherited psychic abilities, which include having visions of special items, and visions of past and future events.

Even though she is cold and abrupt in her manner, with a dark sense of humour, Wednesday is befriended by her roommate, the loyal, forgiving, and colourful Enid Sinclair. Wednesday is helped by her parents who send Thing, a sentient hand, to guide her. She keeps getting into trouble with the shapeshifting school principal, Lorissa Weems.

Answer: Breaking Bad

Brilliant chemistry teacher Walter White has a pregnant wife and a disabled son. They live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When Walter is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer, he needs to find a way to earn some extra money to give his family financial security after his death.

His brother-in-law, DEA agent Hank takes Walter to a raid on a meth lab. Walter recognises his former student, Jesse Pinkman, who escapes. Walter persuades Jesse to work for him. He buys an old recreational vehicle and sets up a methamphetamine lab in the desert with Jesse. Walter is a perfectionist, creating top-quality "blue meth". They become dangerously involved with drug cartels. Walter uses the pseudonym "Heisenberg" in the hope of keeping his crime life hidden from the law and his family, and his true identity hidden from the law and the cartels.

"Breaking Bad" is a crime drama that runs for five seasons, originally from 2008 to 2013. After watching all of "Breaking Bad", I watched the spin-off series "Better Call Saul". I agree with most of the reviewers by rating both of these shows highly.

Answer: Ozark

Marty Byrde and Bruce Liddell are financial advisors and partners in a business based in Chicago. They have both been laundering money for the Navarro drug cartel who are based in Mexico. Bruce and the owners of a trucking company have skimmed $8 million from the cartel. Camino "Del" Del Rio, a cartel lieutenant sets out to kill all the people he suspects could be involved.

Marty survives by offering to relocate to the Ozarks in Missouri where he will launder $500 million and replace all the money that Bruce stole. Marty relocates his family where they are faced with new interactions and confrontations, such as the Snell and Langmore crime families, the FBI, corrupt politicians, Wendy's bipolar brother, and the Kansas City mafia.

"Ozark" runs for four seasons, originally from 2017 to 2022. This crime series is excellent in so many ways, but I wish I had a button on my remote to filter the F-bombs (as in so many other excellent shows and movies).

Answer: Wanted

Accountant Chelsea and supermarket teller Lola have no connection with one another except for waiting at the same bus stop every night after work. A car idles up to the bus stop with an injured man driving it. Lola and Chelsea try to help him. Another car stops nearby. A masked attacker shoots the injured man dead and prepares to shoot the two women. Lola struggles with the masked gunman who gets shot with the gun. The other gunman panics and kidnaps Chelsea and Lola, locking them in the boot of the first car.

When they stop in a used car yard, Chelsea finds an opportunity to phone the police. A corrupt ex-cop arrives at the scene and shoots the kidnapper. The kidnapper survives, shoots the officer, and then runs away. Chelsea and Lola flee in the car which they discover contains a bag filled with cash. They are wanted for a murder they didn't commit, and wanted by the gangsters who want revenge and their cash back.

Carefree and streetwise Lola is the opposite of uptight and sheltered Chelsea, but yet they must find a way to gel, to adapt, and to survive.

This crime drama series runs for three seasons, originally from 2016 to 2019.
