Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This season of the game featured twenty castaways, but how many 'idols'?

Answer: Two

At the start of this season, twenty castaways were split into two tribes of ten and sent directly to their camps, receiving buffs, meeting each other, and building shelter without any formal introduction into the game, only meeting Jeff on Day 3 for the first Immunity Challenge. Their only hint as to the theme of the season was on their tribe flag: 'Island of the Idols'.

What they discovered over the course of the game was that the namesake Idols were past winners Sandra and Rob, both brought on as mentors (with a combined total of more than two hundred days in the game). After most challenges, they would join the pair on their private island to learn some key "Survivor" lessons and risk advantages.

Sandra and Rob did not compete in the season, but would listen in on every Tribal Council.
2. Failure to complete the challenges presented on the 'Island of the Idols' resulted in which of these?

Answer: Loss of vote at Tribal Council

On several occasions, castaways were beckoned to the Island of the Idols for solo visits that would allow them to be mentored by Boston Rob and Sandra in a variety of unique lessons that could improve their game-- themes like fire-making and social awareness. At the end of the lesson, the visiting player would end up completing a test of what they'd learned, often for an Immunity Idol valid for the next couple of Tribal Councils. Failure at the game would result in the loss of their vote at their next Tribal.

If players opted not to complete the game, the idols would try to sweeten the deal by reducing the difficulty and increasing the duration of the prize. Only one person (Janet) would decline all season.
3. Did the Island of the Idols contain any Hidden Immunity Idols?

Answer: Yes

Although players arriving solo to the Island of the Idols were presented with challenges that would allow them to win Immunity Idols handed over by Rob and Sandra. There was a single Hidden Immunity Idol found there, however, when Dean located it on Day 36.

This didn't negate the opportunity for players to find Hidden Immunity Idols throughout the game though; the typical idols hidden at the tribe camps and merge camp were still there, and players also had the opportunity to locate others at Immunity Challenges.
4. This season saw how many tribal swaps before the merge?

Answer: One

Simplifying the pre-merge game more than other seasons of its era, "Island of the Idols" only saw one shake-up when Jeff had the sixteen remaining castaways drop their buffs and take new ones. No additional tribes were added this season, meaning the players would still end up going to either Lairo or Vokai. Four original Vokai stayed with their original camp while three original Lairo stayed at theirs; everyone else swapped.

Interestingly, Lairo continued to flop in challenges, and by the merge, Vokai would only be at Tribal Council twice (against Lairo's five).
5. This season's merged tribe took on what name?

Answer: Lumuwaku

The remaining castaways across all three tribes united on one beach on Day 20, forming what would be known as Lumuwaku when they came together for the traditional merge feast. With numerous different tribal divisions having been created from the early game and the swap, the dynamic for this merge tribe was predictably volatile and the scramble was so up in the air that Kellee, considered a frontrunner by Rob and Sandra, was eliminated at the very next Tribal Council with not one, but two Hidden Immunity Idols in her pocket.
6. On Day 27, how many people left the game at Tribal Council?

Answer: Two

The castaways were surprised with this twist when they headed to their combined Reward and Immunity Challenge as Jeff told them to split into two teams-- orange and purple-- with the winner (Elaine) managing to win peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for their group.

Despite this, both groupings would attend separate Tribal Councils that evening, voting out someone within their new, temporary packs. It led Aaron, a physical front-runner, to be sent home unanimously from the first group and Missy to be blindsided by the other.
7. On Day 36, the show saw the first instance (in thirty-nine seasons) where what happened to a castaway?

Answer: They were ejected from the game by production

Over the years there have been several castaways removed form the game due to injury and some who have quit the game of their own volition. This season saw a unique instance in which production outright removed a player.

After several concerning instances in which castaways noted their discomfort with Dan as far back as the first few days of the game, he was finally pulled from the competition on Day 36 after his actions were non-negotiably line-crossing. His presence in the game, especially in the face of other castaways' accusations towards him, was met with significant controversy from viewers and competitors alike and much of the reunion discussed the matter (though several castaways did not attend).

The production team revised their policies after this season, putting them into effect following the already-filmed fortieth season.
8. The final five of the competition were removed from their camp and brought where to spend their final three days?

Answer: Island of the Idols

To close out the season, the final five castaways were taken from the Lumuwaku beach to their new home, closing out the game on the Island of the Idols. There, Rob and Sandra greeted the players and welcomed them to their complex camp, leaving them the whole thing before departing. Before they left, however, they had one last gift to impart, a series of commemorative buffs to celebrate their time in this game.

Naturally, there was one last test to accompany this hand-off, and after a puzzling scavenger hunt, Dean located a Hidden Immunity Idol.
9. During a visit to Island of the Idols, Dean won which of these in a coin flip, using it successfully on Day 37?

Answer: Idol Nullifier

On Day 35 the castaways had one last opportunity for a solo visit to Island of the Idols and the visitor was determined by a simple random draw from a bag. When Dean won and visited he was given a lesson on jury management and the opportunity to risk his vote in a game of chance-- a simple coin flip-- that could win him an extra vote, an Idol for next Tribal that he couldn't use for himself, or an Idol Nullifier.

He went with the Nullifier, winning it, and carrying it with him until the final five vote, using it to eliminate Janet's Hidden Immunity Idol and send her out of the game in fifth place.
10. Who was crowned the winner of "Survivor: Island of the Idols"?

Answer: Tommy

After thirty-nine days of intense competition in Fiji, the final three of Tommy, Dean, and Noura faced a jury of their voted-out peers at one last Tribal Council and vied for ten votes. In the following events, Noura was criticized for her emotional, impulsive gameplay and Dean, while praised for his moves, was considered unknown, socially, by most of the jury.

In the end, the players gave eight votes to Tommy and two to Dean (and none to Noura), rewarding the school teacher with the million dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor.
