Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Two teams were U-Turned at the start of Leg 5 during a Double U-Turn Vote. Which team, of these, was U-Turned?

Answer: Scott and Lori

Leaving their fourth Pit Stop, racers expected to stay in Bali as their first clue had them starting early and taking a taxi to the town of Padangtegal and the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. There, Phil surprised teams at 8:00am by appearing before them and presenting them with a live Double U-Turn Vote. All teams were, thus, required to make a vote for the recipient of the U-Turn, and it resulted in four votes for Jonathan and Ana and four votes for Scott and Lori (while Nick and Mike received one vote).

After this, teams could crack open their next clues.
2. Racers transporting coconuts during the Detour in Leg 5 (in Bali) had which method of conveyance to do so?

Answer: Bicycles

After the Live Double U-Turn Vote, the teams had to hop into taxis and make their way to the Bali beachside, locating the gazebo at the water in Pantai Pandawa. There, they found the U-Turn board and their Detour clues waiting, signalling the time for choices.

Some teams headed to the 'Coconuts' task for which they had to join local delivery people. Loading up a bike with sixty coconuts, they had to transport their cargo from the Pandawa Beach Cafe to the Warung Van Ronden Cafe, stacking them like the locals upon their arrival.

Han and Holden, Nick and Mike, Alyssa and Josiah, Melinda and Erika, Jonathan and Ana, Pops and Jeff, and Scott and Lori completed this task.
3. Racers completing the 'Coral' Detour task in Leg 5 had to place their coral on which of these devices?

Answer: Reef stars

Teams who elected to complete the 'Coral' Detour task instead headed out into the ocean. But first, on the beach, they had to assemble a reef star and attach five different species of coral to it. Once they had the go-ahead, they could swim out into the sea and plant it on the ocean floor to get their next clue.

Brett and Mark and Carson and Jack finished this task while Jonathan and Ana and Scott and Lori were required to pursue it.

After the Detour, regardless of task, all nine teams had to find their next clue at Nusa Dua Beach.
4. Who did NOT complete the surfboard Road Block in Indonesia in Leg 5?

Answer: Carson

Arriving at Nusa Dua Beach, racers ripped open their Road Block clues and needed to pick one participant, each, who was ready to 'meet their match'. For this, Jack, Brett, Josiah, Pops, Han, Mike, Erika, Jonathan, and Scott all had to hit the surf. In this task, they had to pick a surfboard on the beach, then paddle it out into the waves, and locate someone amongst a group of more than a hundred surfers who had a board with a specific, matching decal. If they could return to shore with that match, they could get their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated in Indonesia at the end of Leg 5?

Answer: Scott and Lori

When they matched up in the Road Block, racers could make their way on foot to the next Pit Stop at the far end of Nua Dusa Beach. There, at the perimeter of the Taksu Art Stage, they could check in with Phil on the mat. Brett and Mark powered through their tasks this leg, taking a first place win and splitting a $10,000 USD victory prize.

The back of the pack saw the two U-Turned teams fighting to stay in the race, and fortunately, Jonathan and Ana were able to overcome the tasks quicker to stay in the race.

It meant that Scott and Lori fell victim to the other teams and were eliminated in ninth place.
6. Arriving in the United Arab Emirates in Leg 6, racers had the chance to ride which of these animals through the desert?

Answer: Camels

Racers finally departed from East Asia when they opened clues early in the morning on Leg 6 because they were informed that they would need to catch flights to the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, right on the edge of the Arabian Peninsula. All remaining teams ended up on the same flight landing late the same evening, and upon arriving, they had to hop into cabs and take a ride into the desert, locating their next route marker at the Platinum Heritage Desert Gate.

Here, they could check in at a Bedouin camp and select a coffee cup with a release time (in groups separated by ten minutes) early the next morning. Little did teams know, they'd be riding camels into the dunes.
7. Early in the day in Dubai (in Leg 6), teams had to perform which of these daring tasks?

Answer: Skydive

Starting their morning, racers watched the sun rise over the Margham Sand Dunes at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve until they reached a distant windsock, and when they got there they found a Road Block clue. For this, one member of each team had to 'drop into Dubai', and what it entailed was a race, on foot, to the nearby Skydive Dubai terminal for a tandem skydive over the city. Participating team members would reunite with their counterparts upon landing at the Palm Jumeirah landing zone. Ana, Holden, Alyssa, Jack, Nick, Melinda, Pops, and Brett took the leap for this one.
8. Which team won the Fast Forward in Dubai?

Answer: Carson and Jack

Once teams completed the first Road Block in Dubai, they had the option of either continuing with the leg or taking a shot at completing the rarely-seen Fast Forward, a challenge which, if completed, would allow one team to skip all remaining tasks and go directly to the Pit Stop. For this, racers had to locate an orange luxury car waiting in the Skydive Dubai parking lot, then drive it to Deep Dive Dubai to continue their descent. Here, Carson and Jack managed to claim the Fast Forward by donning scuba gear and plunging into the deepest diving pool in the world to search the sunken city therein, hunting for their hidden clue.

Teams who didn't head to the Fast Forward had to drive themselves to Atlantis The Royal on Palm Jumeirah to find their next clue in the lobby. There, they had to recreate a hotel royal tea platter to the approval of the luxury hotel's Executive Pastry Chef, garnishing each dessert and presenting all of them on a multi-level tea tray.
9. Teams came across a second Road Block task during their 6th leg of the race. This task was held near which Dubai landmark?

Answer: Burj Al Arab

Teams who got out of tea time received a clue that sent them away from Palm Jumeirah and back to the mainland to find a clue box at the Burj Al Arab Public Beach. Here, they were surprised by a second Road Block task, this one asking 'who's ready to ride a wave?' In this challenge, one racer from each pair had to learn how to ride on an eFoil, surfing around on the waters of the Persian Gulf. If they could pass three buoys on the water (climbing to their feet by the second and sustaining until the third) they could get their final clue for the leg. Josiah, Han, Jonathan, Mark, Erika, Jeff, and Nick completed this one.
10. Which team was sent home at the end of Leg 6, eliminated at the race's halfway point in Dubai?

Answer: Pops and Jeff

Racers closed out the sixth leg by heading to the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station and taking the metro to the uniquely-built Museum of the Future, finding Phil at the Pit Stop there. Carson and Jack, who completed the Fast Forward, were able to pull up in their luxury vehicle, however, landing on the mat with ease to take their second win of the race. Their success paid off; the pair won a seven-night trip for two on an Alaskan cruise courtesy of Expedia.

The last team to check in, this time, after a tight footrace to the mat, was Pops and Jeff. They were sent home in eighth place, only seconds behind Nick and Mike.
