Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To which Indian city did teams need to travel in the first half of Leg 9?

Answer: Kolkata

Teams departed from the eighth Pit Stop at Ko Pak Bia in Krabi, Thailand and flew to Kolkata, India. Here, teams needed to find their first clue at the St. Teresa of Avila Church where that had to light a candle. Many of the teams ended up arriving at the wrong church, the one Mother Teresa was buried in. After this task, teams obtained their Road Block.
2. For the Road Block clue, how many customers did team members need to give a shoe shine (at a price of five rupees each)?

Answer: Seven

After reaching St. Teresa of Avila Church, teams could head to Tollygunge Station, India's first underground railway system, where they needed to find a group of flagged shoeshiners outside. One team member needed to shine seven shoes for a minimum price of five Rupees each. Once that member shined the shoes of seven people, they could receive their next clue. Francesca, Laura, Syeon, Zabrina, and Marsio each completed this task.

After this, teams were instructed to head to the Aaheli Restaurant in Pearless Inn in Kolkata. Once there, they had to eat a traditional Bengali meal for their next clue.
3. How many teams completed the 'Count' Detour task in the first half of Leg 9?

Answer: Four

After the Bengali dinner, teams were instructed to take a taxi to Kanishka's Sari Boutique. Here, teams needed to search for their next clue amongst hundreds of silks and saris within the boutique. This clue was the Detour, which allowed teams to choose between 'Carry' and 'Count'.

In 'Count', teams needed to travel to a nearby market and count the amount of betel nuts in a basket. Once they correctly guessed (after one choice per count) they could receive their clue.
4. Which team completed the 'Carry' Detour task in the first half of Leg 9?

Answer: Andy and Laura

In 'Carry', teams needed to carry eighty liters of milk on their heads in clay pots. Once they filled a basin across a field with this milk, they could be handed their next clue. Andy and Laura completed 'Carry' while Sandy and Francesca, Andrew and Syeon, Zabrina and Joe Jer, and Mardy and Marsio completed 'Count'. Players in the 'Count' Detour found that they needed to count more than one thousand nuts before they could obtain their clue.
5. Which team was first to arrive at Kolay Market in the first half of Leg 9?

Answer: Andy and Laura

After the Detour, teams were instructed to head to Kolay Market where a flagged entrance would hold the mat. After completing their Detour, Andy and Laura were the first to arrive at the mat, but they were shocked to discover that the ninth leg of the race was only half finished. The race would continue with another half of the leg immediately.
6. Via which mode of transportation did teams need to travel to reach Delhi in the second half of Leg 9?

Answer: Train

In the second half of Leg 9, teams immediately departed the mat at Kolay Market and were told to board a nineteen hour train ride to the capital city of India, New Delhi. Once there, teams needed to reach the Red Fort to find their next clue. All five teams were able to board and ride the same train to their destination making everyone begin on even ground.
7. Which team used the Yield in the second half of Leg 9?

Answer: Sandy and Francesca

As soon as teams got off the train in Delhi, they rushed to Red Fort to secure their spot in front of the Yield. Sandy and Francesca, who were first to step in front of the Yield, decided to use it to their advantage by Yielding Andy and Laura. This is because of cab troubles earlier in the leg.

This forced the team to wait until their hourglass had run through before they could read their next clue causing them to fall from second place.
8. One of the Detour tasks in the second half of Leg 9 was 'Donkey'. What was the other?

Answer: Deliver

At Red Fort, teams obtained their Detour. This time, teams chose between 'Donkey' and 'Deliver'. In 'Deliver', teams had to find the Sunny International Spice Shop using a Sony Cybershot picture as a guide. Once there, they needed to deliver four large sacks of chilies to a spice shop to obtain their clue.

In 'Donkey', teams needed to deliver thirty kilograms of onions to a shop at Lahori Crossing by transporting it on the back of a donkey. Sandy and Francesca, Andy and Laura, and Zabrina and Joe Jer chose 'Donkey' while Mardy and Marsio and Andrew and Syeon completed 'Deliver'.
9. Which team member did not complete the Road Block in the second half of Leg 9?

Answer: Zabrina

After the Detour, teams needed to head to the Tibetan Monastery Market where they had to participate in the Road Block. One team member was required to make dung cakes, which are commonly used as fuel. Once that team member could complete a wall of cow dung, they could receive their clue. Laura, Joe Jer, Zabrina, Sandy, and Andrew were able to complete this task.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 9?

Answer: Andy and Laura

After completing the Road Block, teams received the last clue of this double-length leg, leading them to Jain Mandir Dada Bari, a temple in Delhi. Once there, teams could find their ninth Pit Stop in the race. The first team to arrive was Sandy and Francesca.

Although all of the teams had trouble getting a cab, Andy and Laura had the most trouble and arrived in last place. They were eliminated from the race.
