Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Early on in the episode, Joey gets his hands on something he's not supposed to have. What does Joey get a hold of?

Answer: Cell phone

Joey has already overheard Emma, Jacob and Paul plotting and notices inconsistencies in their stories. He knows where Paul took the cell phone from and, while his three captors are lounging in bed, he takes the cell phone and calls his mother.

The FBI attempts to trace the call, and initially gets the location correct, but a virus scrambles the signal and threatens to throw the searchers off-track.
2. Who comes to visit Joe Carroll in his cell?

Answer: His lawyer

Joe Carroll meets with his lawyer, Olivia Warren, who is clearly terrified of him. Olivia is asked to do something, and she doesn't want to do it, but she'd much rather be the messenger than the alternative. Carroll inquires as to whether she still has contacts in the FBI and he wants an update on the situation outside his cell, as well as Olivia to deliver a statement to the press.

Ryan Hardy doesn't want to let Olivia meet with Joe Carroll, but, as Agent Parker points out, that would be unconstitutional.
3. On Carroll's behalf, a statement is made to the press in regards to the fact that he has a following, but it's actually a quote from a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Which story is quoted from?

Answer: The Masque of the Red Death

The quote from "The Masque of the Red Death" is actually a message to Joe Carroll's followers to do something. We see a new character watch the press conference on television and immediately pick up his phone to call another new character. The press, however, is oblivious and just eats up the story as though it's going to sell them headlines.
4. Back at the farm, Paul, Emma and Jacob discuss what they need to do now that their location might be compromised. Who do they mention that they need to call?

Answer: Roderick

Paul states that they ought to give Roderick a call and Emma responds that she's already made that call, and she's left him a message. Roderick is probably coordinating things, but, as of yet, we haven't seen him do anything interesting. Emma, at this time, tells the other two that she has smoothed things over with Joey and that Joey couldn't have revealed where they are because he doesn't really know anything more that it's a white farmhouse with black shutters.
5. While the kidnappers are discussing what to do, Joey has actually run off. Who is the first to find him?

Answer: The Sullivans

When Emma goes up to get Joey for a meal, she discovers that he's not in his room. The three of them tear off in different directions to look for him. In the meantime, Joey has run off blindly into the woods, and he falls down having tripped over a tree root or something...

...only to be found by the neighbours, an elderly couple called Clark and Nora Sullivan. Nora recognizes Joey from television ("Hey, aren't you Joey Matthews?") and they realize that the situation is highly suspicious.
6. When Paul goes to pay the neighbours a visit, what is he holding as he enters their house?

Answer: Garden hoe

The weapon of opportunity is a garden hoe, as the couple had just been tending to their garden as Joey came by. When Paul enters their house, uninvited, mind you, he's holding the hoe and tells them that calling the police probably wasn't their best choice. Of course, we can just imagine what's going to happen next...
7. Claire is told that if she wants to see her son again, she has to be somewhere at a certain time. What is her pretense for wanting to get out of her house?

Answer: Meeting a friend for lunch

Claire is told privately by Carroll's lawyer to be "at the corner of Broad and 26th street at 3PM" and she almost immediately afterwards tells the FBI in her house that she is going for a walk and she has been cooped up in her house for far too long. The FBI is suspicious, rightly so, and Agent Parker tells Deputy Marshal Turner to tail her. Claire, anticipating this, meets a friend for lunch before slipping out the back exit which is conveniently located next to the ladies' room.
8. Claire is told by someone she doesn't know to get into the car, and she does.

Answer: True

Despite telling Ryan Hardy that he is the only one she trusts, she gets into a car with a total stranger who is obviously one of Joe Carroll's disciples, if not one of his main henchmen. This character, who we only assume is Roderick, has just been on the phone with Hank who asked him if he had Claire, and the driver told Hank that she was late.

Bad idea to get into the car, you think?
9. In this episode, is Jacob able to kill the hostage, Megan?

Answer: No

Jacob is still unable to make a kill, despite his desperate need to be part of the group. Despite Paul and Emma coaching him and pushing him to kill the poor girl tied to a chair in the basement, Jacob isn't able to slice her throat, or any part of her, for that matter. Perhaps Jacob has some shred of humanity left in him, something his two companions seem to lack.
10. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with someone holding a gun to Ryan Hardy's head. Who is it?

Answer: Paul

Ryan Hardy just witnessed Officer Lopez die (reminiscent of the crewmember with the red shirt of the original "Star Trek" series) and he shot Hank dead when Hank tried to get the drop on him. Hardy enters the farmhouse through the basement, encountering Megan (who he so kindly doesn't untie, and he reapplies the duct tape to her mouth) and espies Joey.

He tries to get Joey to come downstairs to him when Paul sneaks up behind him and puts a gun to Ryan's head, thus ending the episode.
