On "Yellowstone," Jamie Dutton was shown to be professionally an absolutely brilliant who lacked in dealing with his personal life. He was continually manipulated by women like , the mother of his son, and , who orchestrated his adoptive father's assassination. He also had an ongoing feud with , his sister.

Jamie had political ambition. He withdrew from his first political race, but was eventually appointed as Montana's . He really wanted, however, to be of the state. While working through the nomination process, he found out that he had been adopted by , who eventually gained the endorsement to run for the state's top position. Jamie then successfully ran to retain his office, however, his dreams of power were dashed for the time being, which left him angry and seeking revenge.

For a time, Jamie found solace in the company of his biological father, , who had gone to prison for thirty years after murdering Jamie's . Randall also sought revenge on John Dutton, who he believed had taken his from him. He orchestrated a hit on the entire Dutton family (who all survived) without Jamie's knowledge. When the name of the person who ordered the hit was uncovered, Jamie was forced to make a difficult decision. He chose to kill his biological in retaliation for the hit on his adoptive family.

The problem with being his adoptive father's Attorney General was that Jamie didn't agree with the political decisions that were made, as he felt they were all made to benefit the family rather than the of Montana. He began impeachment proceedings against his adoptive father, while, unknown to Jamie, his girlfriend arranged a hit on him. The assassination plot, however, was eventually uncovered by Jamie's adopted brother, , and Jamie didn't have to wait long for his payback.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

John Dutton's second son, Jamie, earned his law degree from Harvard and was subsequently expected to come home to Montana and take care of legal matters on the Yellowstone Ranch. Time and time again, he was able to get both the ranch and members of the family out of sticky situations. For example, after his sister, Beth, was incarcerated for beating up a tourist in a bar fight, Jamie was able to convince the woman that it was her fault because her words started the fight (season 5a/episode 4).

Jamie became involved with Christina while running the first time for Attorney General of Montana (season 1/episode 6). She was bright with political experience and savvy, and was appointed to be Jamie's campaign manager. After the two became personally involved, Jamie withdrew from the race; she ended the relationship because she thought he allowed his family to use him (season 2/episodes 3). Jamie later found out that she had given birth to his son, who was also named Jamie, and they renewed their relationship for a short time (season 4/episode 5). Afterwards, Christina apparently stayed nearby and was available to give Jamie some rather sage advice after his adoptive father died (season 5b/episode 13).

Jamie then became involved with Sarah, a lawyer for Market Equites, the company that wanted to buy out the Yellowstone Ranch in order to develop the land for profit and tourism (season 5a/episode 3). She was happy to begin a relationship with Jamie in order try and win the ranch for her company. When Jamie expressed his hatred for and frustration with John Dutton in a passing conversation, Sarah was quick to arrange a hit on him without Jamie's knowledge (season 5b/episode 9).

Jamie's feud with Beth was a huge deep and open wound that festered and never healed. When they were teenagers Beth was faced with an unwanted pregnancy and went to Jamie for help. He took her to a reservation clinic that performed the abortion, but also required mandatory sterilization after; Beth did not know or agree to such a requirement (season 3/episode 5). Throughout the series of "Yellowstone" episodes it appeared that Beth was not so upset about Jamie's decision until she was ready to have her own children who might one day become heirs to the ranch.

So Jamie found out about his biological parents quite by mistake. He had to have a copy of his birth certificate in order to run for state office, and when he went to have one made, the clerk at the state office told him (season 3/episode 7). This story was told after the hit on the Dutton family had been made, and each had recovered from their respective injuries. Garrett Randall and his wife, Phyllis, had been junkies with a baby. Garrett killed Phyllis one day when she was working to acquire drugs rather than taking care of a hungry baby, and felt that he had been justified in his actions. Randall was angry at John Dutton because he felt that Dutton could have spoken for him at his trial, and was an important enough person that his words might have kept Garrett out of prison. John refused to do that, and took Jamie into his home instead (season 3/episode 10). Eventually, when pressured by Beth, Jamie chose to kill Garrett after he learned that he had been the one to order the hit on his adoptive family (season 4/episode 10).

In the end, Jamie started impeachment proceedings against the governor because Sarah urged him to so, claiming that he had put his own personal interests ahead of doing what was best for the state. John was assassinated the night before the trial was to take place. At first stunned by the turn of events, and later relieved, Jamie appeared to be working with the state's new governor to overturn what John had done. Then Kayce, who had friends in high places to help him, uncovered the plot and convinced the coroner to declare John's death a homicide.

Did Jamie receive what he deserved in the end? You decide!
