Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ava, a normal female chicken

Answer: "Beaker."

Ava is a white chicken with a red comb and brown wings. Her name may refer to the Latin word for bird, 'aves', or for eggs, 'ova'.

The normal personality type is generally kind to the player, and gets along well with other villagers whose personality is normal, lazy, peppy, smug or snooty, but tends to have issues with those who are cranky or sisterly.

Ava is a Taurus, with her birthday on 28 April. Her special skill is peeling apples, and her goal is to be a pastry chef.
2. Axel, a jock male elephant

Answer: "WHONK"

Axel is dark blue, with a white stomach, orange-tipped feet, and a green tip to his tail that matches his shirt. The flat tip of his trunk matches his feet.

Villagers with a jock personality are always male, and are very enthusiastic about sports. They also tend to be rather slow on the uptake, and sometimes get their words confused, saying something close to, but not exactly the same as, what they really mean.

Axel is an Aries, born on 23 March. His special skill is competitive eating, and his goal is to be a basketball player.
3. Cheri, a peppy female bear

Answer: "Tralala."

Cheri is a red bear cub, and her name refers to her cherry-red colour. It also suggests her cheery nature. She has dark red hair, which lies in three curls across her forehead.

Peppy villagers are very friendly, but tend to be easily excited in conversation, and may annoy upset cranky and snooty villagers (who they find boring).

Born on St. Patrick's Day, 17 March, Cheri is a Pisces. Her special skill is staying positive, and her goal is to become a marathon runner.
4. Cleo, a snooty female horse

Answer: "Sugar."

Cleo's Japanese name is Isotope, the name of a successful Australian racehorse. While Isotope is a bay mare, Cleo is light purple with a yellow mane and tail, and dark purple eyelashes. She initially wears what is described as a silk bloom shirt, probably a reference to the silks worn by jockeys.

As a snooty personality villager, Cleo is self-absorbed, so appears unfriendly at first because she ignores players. She is very interested in makeup and gossip, so is soon ready to engage in conversation. She does not get along with lazy or jock villagers - they pay too little attention to their appearance.

Cleo was born on 9 February, making her an Aquarius. Her special skill is juggling, and her goal is to be a dermatologist.
5. Cube, a lazy male penguin

Answer: "D-d-dude."

Cube may have derived his name from the idea of ice cubes, since he is a penguin, and his catchphrase stutter suggests shivering in the cold. He is (officially) an Emperor penguin, with a black head, white stomach, blue flippers and back, and orange cheeks. Perhaps his most striking feature is his eyes: they are large and white, with very large + signs for the pupils. This may be a reference to the controller for a GameCube (which may also be the source of his name).

Lazy villagers are laid back and friendly. They enjoy eating and relaxing hobbies such as fishing. They get on well with most other villagers, but dislike the way jocks urge them to engage in activities, and sometimes they irritate snooty villagers.

A birthday on 29 January makes him an Aquarius. His special skill is staying awake, and his goal is to be an astronaut.

In later games, Cube's catchphrase changed to "brainfreeze".
6. Cyrano, a cranky male anteater

Answer: "Ah-CHOO!"

As an anteater, Cyrano has a large hooked nose, so his name immediately fits as a reference to the famously large-nosed Cyrano de Bergerac, a French novelist who was the inspiration for Edmond Rostand's 1897 drama 'Cyrano de Bergerac'. He is indigo, with orange for his face and paws, and very large black eyebrows, positioned to make it look as if he is scowling.

As his eyebrows suggest, cranky characters such as Cyrano are usually in a grumpy mood, and are quickly roused to anger during player interactions. He gets along, more or less, with most of the other villagers, but does find peppy villagers to be very immature, hence irritating.

Cyrano's birthday is 9 March, making him a Pisces. His special skill is whistling, and he wants to be a journalist.
7. Dora, a normal female mouse

Answer: "Squeaky."

Dora is a white mouse with light blue highlights (inside her ears, paws, and stripes on her tail) and pink circles that look like blush on her cheeks. Her catchphrase is a clear reference to the sound mice are said to make.

As a normal villager, Dora wakes up early, usually around 6:00am, and she is one of the villagers with whom players can make friends most easily. Normal villagers are the female equivalent of the male lazy villagers. Although they are called normal, they do have some issues, such as being self-deprecative, and sometimes overconcerned with cleanliness.

Dora is an Aquarius, having been born on 18 February. Her special skill is dusting (there's that cleanliness thing) and her goal is to be a translator (how helpful can you get?).
8. Ozzie, a lazy male koala

Answer: "Ol' bear"

Since koalas are found in Australia, and an Australian is often called an Aussie, Ozzie's name sounds just like a resident in his place of origin. His Japanese name means acorn. Koalas do not eat acorns, but the character's orange-brown nose does somewhat resemble an acorn. Most koalas have grey or black noses, and lack the happy smile that Ozzie displays.

That smile suits a lazy personality type - they are known for their friendliness. They are also sometimes called relaxed, doofus, or food-loving villagers.

Ozzie's birthday is 7 May, making him a Taurus. His special skill is baton twirling (!), and his goal is to be a pro golfer. Also, according to his e-Card bio, Ozzie hopes he can grow taller.
9. Tom, a cranky male cat

Answer: "Me-YOWZA!"

Tom is a tom cat - how creatively named! His Japanese name is Bantam, a reference to a weight division used in boxing. This fits nicely with his cranky personality, and the reputation that male cats have for fighting.

Tom is blue, with a white muzzle and white tips to his tail and paws. The inside of his ears is pink. Like all cranky villagers, he engages strongly in his hobby, and is likely to challenge players to competitions.

Tom is a Sagittarius, having been born on 10 December, His special skill is doing chin-ups, and his goal is to be a guitarist.
10. Tybalt, a jock male tiger

Answer: "GrrRAH!"

The Shakespearean character Tybalt, a fiery character in 'Romeo and Juliet', whose name is noted to be the same as a character from the French legend 'Reynard the Fox', described as "the prince of cats" because of his suave yet violent behaviour. Tybalt, being a jock, is likely to engage the player in conversation about his latest training regime, or challenge the player to a fitness contest.

Tybalt is light yellow with brown stripes and brown freckles on his cheeks. Like a number of cranky villagers, his eyebrows are large rectangles slanted to give his face a scowling expression.

Since there is no zodiac sign that is a tiger, it is fitting that Tybalt's birthday on 19 August makes him a Leo (lion). His special skill is bunting, and his goal is to be a soccer player. One would have thought baseball more relevant!
