Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Number of wheels on each vehicle in "Uniracers".

"Uniracers" was, as its name suggests, a racing game featuring unicycles. It was released in 1994 to mixed reviews, though many players enjoyed the game's pace and the use of stunts on the races to earn extra points.

However, the game was short-lived. Not long after its release, the developer was sued by Pixar, who claimed that the unicycles' designs was taken from their 1987's short film "Red's Dream". The lawsuit was won by Pixar, so any further development of the game, and the planned franchise, had to be halted.
2. Number of selectable characters in "Final Fight".

Unlike the arcade version, SNES port of "Final Fight", which was released in 1990, only lets you choose between Haggar and Cody, with Guy nowhere to be found.

The two versions also differ in a few more aspects, with the most notable being the removal of the fourth stage, "Industrial Area" from the SNES version.
3. Number of wingmen in "Star Fox".

Another successful SNES title, "Star Fox" (1993) is a third-person aerial shooter, and one of the first games to use polygonal graphics to emulate a 3D environment.

The player controls Fox McCloud, the main character, but, on each mission, three more characters will help battling the enemies: Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad and Falco Lombardi. All three of them will communicate with the player at certain points of the mission, and will sometimes require the player's assistance. They are not present in the boss fights, but they rejoin the crew before entering the next stage.

A noteworthy feature of this game is its take on difficulty. While most games scale difficulty by making the same levels harder (by adding more enemies, more traps, giving less health to the player, etc.), "Star Fox" features a unique set of levels for each difficulty, giving it a higher replay value.
4. Number of animal friends in "Donkey Kong Country".

"Donkey Kong Country" (1994) was one of the first home console games to feature pre-rendered 3D models, giving it a very realistic feeling at the time. The game follows the journey of Donkey Kong and his nephew Diddy, in search of their stolen banana hoard.

During their quest, Donkey and Diddy can find Rambi (a rhino), Engarde (a swordfish), Expresso (an ostrich) and Winky (a frog), which will help them in some levels. Each of them also has a special bonus level in which the player can collect some extra lives.
5. Number of tracks in each league in "F-Zero".

"F-Zero" was launched in 1990 as one of the launch titles for SNES and was a massive success, spawning numerous sequels across many other consoles.

It's a futuristic racing game featuring hovering cars, cruising through many different themed tracks with many hazards along the way. The main game mode is the Grand Prix, divided into three leagues: Knight, Queen and King. Each of them contains five tracks, making for a grand total of fifteen playable circuits. The lineup is detailed below:

- Knight League: Mute City I, Big Blue, Sand Ocean, Death Wind I, Silence.
- Queen League: Mute City II, Port Town I, Red Canyon I, White Land I, White Land II.
- King League: Mute City III, Death Wind II, Port Town II, Red Canyon II, Fire Field.
6. Number of levels in "Contra III: The Alien Wars".

Released in 1992, this was the first 16-bit installment of the Contra franchise, as the previous two titles were based on NES.

Like the other two, most of the stages are played in a side-scrolling style (well, sometimes there's a little climbing to do, but you get the idea), except for stages 2 and 5, which are presented in an overhead view. One of its new features is the ability to store two different weapons from which you can choose which one to use at a given time (both can be fired simultaneously for a brief period of time through a key combination). It also introduces bombs that will destroy all enemies in sight, but they don't protect the player from incoming gunfire.

Stage 6, the final level, pays homage to the previous two titles by featuring scenery of their respective final stages, as well as a cameo from their final bosses. The final battle varies depending on the skill level selected.
7. Number of crystals to collect in "The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past".

Sorry if I lose objectivity here, but this game has a very special place in my heart. Released in 1991, it's the third game in the "Zelda" franchise, and its gameplay, its vast array of secrets, minigames, locations, and the massive room for exploration, makes for a game that you'll constantly come back to. It's no surprise that it was also highly successful, and considered among the best games of all time.

In this game, you control Link, initially traveling through Hyrule's overworld. After Princess Zelda is captured by the wizard Agahnim, she is sent, together with six other maidens, all of them descendants of the wise men of Hyrule, to the Dark World, a roughly mirror counterpart of Hyrule. Each of them is trapped into a crystal and locked into a hidden dungeon within the Dark World. Link must then find the dungeons where the seven maidens are captive, and battle their keepers to set them free.
8. Number of levels in the Special World of "Super Mario World".

A SNES quiz is never complete without mentioning "Super Mario World" (1990). There is so much to say about this game that it would merit a quiz of its own (and there are many out there already!)

For this particular question, I'm focusing on the most hidden area of the whole game. At some points, Mario will find secret exits on some levels, some of them leading him to special "Star Roads". These will warp him to a secret "Star World" which contains five levels and several teleporters. The central one, accessible through another secret exit, will take Mario to the "Special World", containing eight levels of extreme difficulty and with some radical features (the last level, "Funky", is home to the unique green berries that, when eaten by Yoshi, add a few seconds to the level timer).
9. Number of characters in "Fighter's History" roster.

"Fighter's History" is a game by Data East that shares many aspects of its gameplay with "Street Fighter 2", up to the point that Capcom actually filed a copyright lawsuit against Data East (and lost).

The game offers nine possible fighters to choose from, some of them resembling those at SF2. There are two bosses, which can be unlocked through cheat codes.
10. Number of characters in "Mortal Kombat".

The release of "Mortal Kombat" (1993) was a turning point for the fighting game genre. Using digitalized models of real actors, very detailed scenery, and graphic violence (most notably, the introduction of the "Fatality" finishing moves), the franchise sums up to over fifteen different titles.

Anyway, regarding the question, it's kind of a tricky one: there are actually ten total characters in the first game. Seven of them are the selectable fighters (Johnny Cage, Kano, Rayden, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub Zero and Sonya Blade), then there's the two bosses (Goro and Shang Tsung), plus a secret non selectable character (Reptile).
