Answer: Chimchar

Chimchar is one of the three starters and is a Fire type Pokémon. The artwork resembles a playful monkey in hues of yellow, orange and red, with a tail that seems to be on fire. It evolves to a Monferno (a Fire and Fighting type Pokémon) at level 14 and to an Infernape at level 36.
As a Fire type Pokémon, Chimchar has an advantage when attacking a Grass type Pokémon such as the Turtwig (the Grass starter). Out of the three starter Pokémon in the fourth generation, Chimchar is by far the fastest, but has the worst stats for Defense and Special Defense.

Answer: Piplup

Piplup is the Water type starter Pokémon, as Chimchar is the Fire type starter and Turtwig is the Grass type Starter. The artwork for Piplup shows a bluish penguin-like creature, and Piplup is thus nicknamed the "Penguin Pokémon".
Being a Water type Pokémon, Piplup has an advantage over Fire type Pokémon such as Chimchar, but Piplup's attacks won't harm the Grass type Pokémon (such as the Turtwig). Overall, Piplup is marginally the best Starter Pokémon in the fourth generation.
Piplup evolves to Prinplup and later to Empoleon. The second type advantages don't develop in the first evolution, Piplup has to turn into Empoleon to become a Water and Steel type Pokémon.

Answer: Pachirisu

Pachirisu is an Electric type Pokémon. Its artwork resembles a squirrel, white with a light blue stripe (or a pink stripe if Pachirisu appears as a Shiny Pokémon). Shiny Pokémon are rare, but have the same stats as the normal ones.
As an Electric type Pokémon, Pachirisu is good against Water type Pokémon such as Prinplup but vulnerable to Ground type Pokémon such as Hippopotas.
Pachirisu is a fast Pokémon, but it has low Attack stats.
Pachirisu does not evolve. It can only gain levels and extra abilities. You can find wild Pachirisu on route 205 and in the Valley Windworks.

Answer: Cherubi

The Cherubi is a Grass type Pokémon, but not an evolution of the Grass type starter Turtwig.
Cherubi resembles a sweet cherry with an additional ball (that holds extra nutrients needed for evolution), and it is thus nicknamed the Cherry Pokémon. At level 25 it evolves to Cherrim, a darker coloured cherry.
Wild Cherubi can be found in many places. It is quite slow, and has rather weak defences.

Answer: Buneary

A Buneary is a Normal type Pokémon, which does equally well attacking any other type of Pokémon - but the Ghost type (for instance Spiritomb) that is immune to attacks by Normal type Pokémon, and the Rock and Steel type Pokémon which sustain less than average damage when a Normal type attacks them.
The Buneary is depicted as a dark brown rabbit, with yellowish clouds on both ears and on the abdomen. It is quite fast and has a good attack score. When its stats for Friendship are raised from the absolute minimum to a high level, it evolves into the Lopunny.
In "Pokémon Diamond" and "Pokémon Pearl" the Buneary can only be found in the Eterna Forest.

Answer: Honchkrow

The Honchkrow is an evolution of the Murkrow. Both are Dark and Flying type Pokémon. Artwork for the Honchkrow resembles a crow-like bird in dark blue, with a white collar and red feathers inside the wings. Oddly it wears a dark blue hat. In the Shiny versions, the dark blue is replaced by light violet.
As a Dark type Pokémon, it has an advantage when attacking Ghost type Pokémon (such as the Mismagius) and Psychic type Pokémon (such as Chingling). And the Honchkrow's Flying character gives it an edge over Grass type (for instance Leafeon), Fighting type (such as Riolu) or Bug type Pokémon (for instance Burmy).
Honchkrow are only active at night. They are quite hard to catch.

Answer: Gabite

The Gabite is an interesting combination of Dragon type and Ground type Pokémon. It is the first evolution of the Gible (at level 24) and will evolve into a Garchomp at level 48.
The Gabite is represented by a dark blue lizard walking on the two hind paws, with a scarlet breast. A Shiny version exists, but the differences are rather faint.
Gabite are believed to live in caves, so they have the nickname "cave Pokémon".
Gabite have an advantage over many type of Pokémon when attacking. But they are extremely vulnerable when defending against an Ice type Pokémon.

Answer: Lucario

Lucario are Fighting and Steel type Pokémon. As such, they are extremely effective when attacking Ice type Pokémon (for instance the Abomasnow) or Rock type Pokémon (such as Bonsly).
Lucario evolve from Riolu in broad daylight, when they have a high Friendship stat. You can't find a wild Lucario anywhere in the fourth generation games.
Lucario's artwork reminds me of Crash Bandicoot, but then with other colours: blue shorts and a pale yellow shirt. The Shiny versions have the colours reversed and brightened.

Answer: Skorupi

The Skorupi is a Poison type and Bug type Pokémon. Its artwork is inspired by a scorpion (albeit all in blue - the Shiny version all in red), and its nickname is the Scorpion Pokémon.
Skorupi are extremely effective when attacking a Grass type Pokémon such as the Carnivine. But their good defence stats can be put to the test by Fire type (for instance Magmortar), Flying type (such as Togekiss), Psychic (for instance Gallade) or Rock type Pokémon (such as Probopass).
Skorupi evolve at level 40 into Drapion, which maintains the Poison type but replaces the Bug type with Dark type.
You can find wild Skorupi in the Great Marsh.

Answer: Froslass

The Froslass is one of two possible evolutions of the Ice type Pokémon Snorunt (from the third generation). At level 42, a Snorunt may evolve to a Glalie (equally third generation Pokémon), but if you use the Dawn Stone on a female Snorunt, you end up with the Froslass. As the Glalie is only Ice Type and the Froslass is Ice type and Ghost type, many players would prefer the evolution to a Froslass over the evolution to a Glalie.
The Froslass looks to me as bowling pin with a face and wing-like upper limbs. It exists only in female form.
Froslass being a Ghost type Pokémon, can't do any harm to a Normal type Pokémon such as a Lopunny, neither can it be hurt by such a Normal type. The Froslass can't be hurt by a Fighting type Pokémon (for instance the Riolu) either.
You can't find wild Froslass in any of the "Pokémon" games of the fourth generation.
