Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
"Guitar Hero" was first released in 2005. Developed by American game developer Harmonix, it was originally published by the game company RedOctane, but has since changed developers and publishers many times. Various "Guitar Hero" games have been designed to be used on a variety of platforms, including PlayStation, Wii, Nintendo, and Xbox.
To use the game, players utilize a game controller that resembles a guitar, and follows prompts to "play" the guitar, including forming chords, strumming patterns, and instrument effects. Although originally designed simply for the use of a guitar, by 2008 with the "Guitar Hero World Series" release, players could perform vocals and drum tracks as well.
In 2008, the first "Guitar Hero" game to focus on one group, Aerosmith, was released in the "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith" game. Metallica and Van Halen-centric games followed suit, and were both released in March and November of 2009 respectively. Although sales for "Guitar Hero" dropped beginning in 2009, "Guitar Hero Live" was the next game in the series, being finally released in 2015.
Interestingly, "Guitar Hero" publisher Activision has been sued several times thanks to the games. Gibson, a guitar maker, sued the company in 2008, claiming that the faux-guitars used in the game were too similar to Gibson guitars. The US Supreme Court overturned the case in Activision's favor in 2009, but that didn't stop the law suits. Activision was next sued by the Patent Compliance Group (PCG) in 2010 for releasing games that claimed they used certain patents...but didn't. The case was withdrawn the same year, though.
