Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Up to how many players can join the adventure in one session?

Answer: Four

The game starts with Princess Peach's birthday at her castle, and naturally, that all comes crashing down when Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, hidden inside a Trojan horse of a massive cake, emerge to steal her away.

It's the perfect start for not only for Mario, but for Luigi, and a Blue and Yellow Toad, all of whom become playable characters for up to four players with individual Wii Remotes. It's a good insurance policy for players since, if one dies, the others can bring them back by bursting them out of a bubble that floats back onto the screen (at the cost of a 1-Up, of course).
2. What new animal-themed power-up can Mario obtain in this game?

Answer: Penguin Suit

As soon as Mario kicks off his adventure there should be some clear clues as to what he'll have in his arsenal. Not only will the Mini Mushroom return from the DS' "New Super Mario Bros.", but the Toads will launch both the Propeller Mushroom and the Penguin Suit across the Worlds, allowing Mario to navigate levels with the added capabilities of being able to fly (temporarily) and slide along slippery surfaces. Both return for "New Super Mario Bros. U" as well.
3. How many Star Coins appear in the majority of the game's levels?

Answer: Three

Although general Golden Coins (and Red and Blue ones) make their return in this game (because, let's face it, they've gotta), Mario sees a game mechanic return from the Nintendo DS' "New Super Mario Bros.", specifically the introduction of Star Coins. Three of these can be found in every major level of the game up to a certain point, allowing the players to stretch their capabilities in hunting them down. Though they are necessary for accessing hints from Princess Peach's Castle back in World 1, collecting all of the Star Coins in each World opens up a final World at the end of the game.

There are two hundred and thrity-one of these in total.
4. Which colour Toad House does not exist?

Answer: Blue

Just as in "Super Mario Bros. 3", Mario can stop in at Toad Houses, mushroom-shaped buildings, found along paths in each World to get assistance from locals. Each colour house does something different with the red ones offering the Power Panels matching mini-game (for items), the yellow ones giving Mario a free, powerful item off the bat, and the green ones opening up to the 1-Up Blast minigame for extra lives.
5. Does Yoshi appear in this game?

Answer: Yes

An old Mario faithful, Yoshi makes his appearance as early as World 1-3 and appears in an additional five levels over the course of the game. Like in "Super Mario World", Mario can hop onto Yoshi's back and use him for a few different actions. Not only does Yoshi's flutter jump return, giving Mario a bit of a boost for jump if he needs the sustained airtime, but Yoshi's tongue can slurp up most enemies if they're creating impediments.
6. The Koopalings return in this game, acting as World bosses. Defeating each one gives you which of these?

Answer: Key

Mario will face each Koopaling twice in their respective Worlds, the first time being in a small castle halfway through the World, and the second being at the very end when Mario gets closer to Bowser Jr.'s airship. The first instance will always be a primer for the final fight wherein Mario will generally have to face off against the foe with its basic mechanics in a flat arena.

The second battle will usually be supercharged by Magikoopa's power, adding new dimensions to the fight. Beating the Koopaling the second time will drop a key and grant Mario access to the next World down the line.
7. Bringing Captured Toads to the end of any level will reward Mario with which of these?

Answer: 1-Ups

Once the player beats certain levels, they might be surprised that their work in them isn't quite done as Toads will send out a distress cry to indicate they've been captured and hidden somewhere within. If Mario can locate them in a hiding spot and then carry them on his head all the way to the end of the level, he'll receive 1-Up Mushrooms as a reward-- three for bringing the Toad without taking any damage and one if the Toad takes a hit. Additionally, the reclaimed Toad will open a new Toad House at the start of that World's map. Nothing like additional bonuses.
8. There are no Warp Cannons that travel to which of these Worlds?

Answer: World 7

Mario can locate Warp Cannons in each of the first six Worlds of the game, and each of them will send him to a later World if he locates the secret exits in specific levels. The ones in World 1 and 2 lead to World 5; the ones in Worlds 3 and 4 go to World 6; the ones in World 5 and 6 go to World 8.

This means that the only way of accessing World 7, the cloud World, is by defeating Morton Koopa (and Bowser Jr. in his airship) in World 6.
9. How many Worlds can Mario visit in the game?

Answer: Nine

Although there are eight core Worlds of the game and the technical end of the storyline comes to a close at the end of World 8, collecting all of the game's Star Coins will allow Mario to unlock levels in a secret ninth World set in a rainbow starscape.

These final levels are meant to be a test of the player's capabilities in platforming scenarios and feature not only the most difficult obstacles, but new enemies that are yet to be seen in not only this game, but any "Mario" title.
10. Once Bowser is finally defeated, he and his Koopalings face which fate?

Answer: They're crushed by his castle

At the end of World 8, Mario will find Bowser in the depths of his volcano lair and face off against the King Koopa in a room reminiscent of classic Bowser battles on the NES. It won't end there, though, since Magikoopa will make one last appearance and use his magic to make Bowser a massive foe. At that point, the fight is less about fighting back and more about navigating the caverns below the castle using Bowser's own devastating fireballs to lead the way. At the end of the course, Mario can save Peach, send Bowser to his doom, and return Peach to the Mushroom Kingdom in a hot air balloon.

In a post-credits scene, Bowser and the Koopalings will try to get back to their feet, but the castle will lean over, evidently coming down on the group of them.
