Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The 'FunTrivia Regulars' group is debating again while playing through another marathon of games. What are they so anxious to find out? What is the best video game genre?
"Everyone loves the classics!" Kyle begins. "Arcade games are what started it all, how can this not be the best genre out there? In fact, just the other day, I saw a kid playing "Pac-man" on the Game Boy Advance! You know, the main character is just a simple yellow guy which eats dots, how is that not cool?"
What is not one of the four ghosts in the arcade game "Pac-man"?
2. "Speaking of classics," Bruce begins, "who can forget the fighting genre and its most memorable contributions to the gaming world. Everybody knows 'Virtua Fighter', and 'Mortal Kombat' but does anyone really remember the fighting games made notorious for their incredibly low-quality? After seeing a copy at a used game store 'Shaq-Fu' is one of those horrid games that fits into that category. There have been plenty of bad fighters to grace consoles over the years but 'Shaq Fu' takes the cake. Not only did it feature a terribly uninteresting story, it starred a character who nobody ever wanted to play as: Shaquille O'Neal. It was still a well marketed game and sold many copies. Thankfully, the fighting genre couldn't get any worse than this game, and more often than not, the genre improved by year." What was the biggest problem that graced the fighting game 'Shaq-Fu'?
3. "Anyone ever hear of 'GunZ'?" KvK asks. There was no response. He quickly hops on the computer and within the hour the game downloads. Everyone quickly watches as he plays the game. Soon everyone wants a turn at the MMORPG, 'GunZ', because of it's simple main point. What is the main objective?
4. The topic quickly shifts to sports games when the MMORPG topic ends. "Does anyone know of a football game for the Nintendo 64?" Triviaballer asks. Everyone in the room quickly responds and chaos ensues as two factions emerge between the football "purists" who favor the "Madden" football series and those who favor the sensationalized take on the sport offered by "NFL Blitz". Of the following, which is NOT a way that the game of "NFL Blitz" differs from the actual NFL rules and the "Madden" football series?
5. Qrayx gets frustrated with always losing and finally blurts out "this stinks! We need something we can all enjoy; something cooperative." Qrayx then realizes that he isn't good at anything with a cooperative setting, so he suggests that they all try their skills by taking turns at a one-player game, and assisting each other in any way possible. This left him, also, with only a few different genres to choose from.
Qrayx is a self-proclaimed "Banjo-Kazooie" expert, and suggests that they play the old N64 game, as they are all getting tired of the high-paced games of the newer systems. Which genre does "Banjo-Kazooie" fall into?
6. "Heh, that was fun," SFA comments after the group is finished playing with Qrayx's guidelines, then pulls out his Game Boy Advance and starts up the game inside. "You guys can figure out what we play next, I'll wait for you and play a good RPG." As he goes to sit down in a chair in the corner of the room, he quickly comes across a random battle with a few moderately tough enemies. "I'd better deal with these fast," he thinks, quickly getting to his Black Mage and looking past spells such as Dark and Sleepra, and choosing Firaga to take them out. Which game might SFA be playing?
7. "Enough of this," said Kurama Z, "I want to play a game that requires more thinking. I know, how about 'Dr. Mario 64'?" Kyleisalive, KvK, Qrayx, and Kurama Z all start playing multiplayer on the famous puzzle game. After Kyleisalive beats the other three players with no problem whatsoever, they ask him to play story mode to unlock the last character, Metal Dr. Mario. Then it comes time to pick the difficulty. How many different levels of difficulty are possible for him to choose?
8. "Shooting is fun", says Bruce as a maniacal laugh ensues him. Everyone is frightened but Bruce continues, "Shooters are the greatest genre of games, because they are a great way of taking out pent-up rage." Once again, the group is scared by Bruce's remark. Bruce goes on, "You remember the greatest games of the genre such as 'Half-Life', 'Red Faction', 'Goldeneye 007', and even 'Doom', but do you remember the real roots of the genre and the first incarnation of a true first-person shooter?" One person mentions 'Castle Wolfenstein' but Bruce tells him that, that is wrong. After much deliberation, the group gives up, confused and bewildered. What two games claim to be the original first-person shooters?
9. "Let's all do a WiFi race!" KvK exclaims randomly. Quickly everyone agrees, hoping to get away from the other systems which they have been playing so much. Quickly they all connect to WiFi on their DS' and start up Mario Kart DS, a racing game. They all choose different characters. Which of these could KvK pick?
10. "Over the years," Kyle begins, "platform games have also been extremely popular, you all have to admit it. Some of the popular ones have been "Psychonauts", "Banjo-Kazooie", "Spyro" and others, but the most famous have to be from the Mario series." Many platform games have been re-released on different systems. Which two platform games are not one in the same?
11. "Aw, man. What can we play now? I'm getting bored of RPG's and Racing," moans SFA. "Yeah, we need something new," says KvK. Qrayx jumps up, suddenly. "I know, Flight Sims! We haven't played any of those, yet." The group decides to pick out a Flight Simulation game. They all grab their favorite ones to choose from, but someone ends up choosing a game of a different genre. Who?
12. "So, who's up for a little aerobic workout while we play video games?" Triviaballer asks. The group's puzzled responses let Triviaballer know that they have no idea what he was talking about. Triviaballer continues, "I was referring to the 'Dance Dance Revolution' game that you can find at arcades". The group tries to protest stating that they can't dance, but eventually they give in and end up enjoying the simple and addictive gameplay. What is the basic objective in the 'Dance Dance Revolution' series of arcade games?
13. "That did involve a fair bit of thinking," SFA comments after "Dance Dance Revolution's" session, "but not enough for me. Heh, what about some "Fire Emblem", with us alternating turns? We haven't tried a strategy game yet." The group agrees, and watch as he starts up his game of choice. While playing, they control various characters such as Ike, Mia, Mist and Soren. What is this "Fire Emblem" game's English subtitle?
14. "Sorry guys," KvK says grinning. Quickly he pulls a large box out of the closet. An Xbox 360, along with four controllers and a copy of "Call of Duty 2". After about an hour of multiplayer of this war game, they decide to switch around on campaign. Within two hours they beat it and are watching the ending credits. One scene portrays a man breaking open a door, what follows?
15. "Well, let's end our games on a spooky note," Kyle says. "I'm interested in playing "Resident Evil" for a bit." In this final game of our debate, in the Horror/Survival genre, you can initially play as Chris Redfield or what other character?
