Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Colosseum" there is only one Ghost type available to the player via snagging a Shadow. Who is it?

Answer: Misdreavus

Misdreavus is available at basically the start of the game, as the player can acquire it as soon as they reach Pyrite Town.

Notably, enemy AI has seemed to have a difficult time remembering what Misdreavus' immunities are; for no apparent reason, and at no traceable interval, enemies will just use Normal, Fighting or Ground moves against Misdreavus despite it very much being immune to those moves. Perhaps this is because Genius Sonority, only giving the player one Ghost type, did not do their due diligence preparing AI opponents to deal with it.
2. If you're worried about the rematch with Miror B in "Colosseum", it would be a good idea to get a Shadow with a weather changing move to fight his rain-focused approach. Which of the following learns Sunny Day after being purified?

Answer: Entei

Entei, the legendary Fire type, can really lay down the hurt if the player sets up the sun, then starts having Entei blast the foe with sun boosted Fire Blasts or Flamethrowers. Sadly, as a Fire type, Entei is weak to Miror B's rain-focused team. So the player can't just aimlessly switch it in to replace the rain he sets- they'll need to be more tactical on how they use Entei to oppose Rain Dance.
3. The player begins "XD: Gale of Darkness" only dealing with relatively weak Shadow Blitzes and Shadow Waves. It doesn't take too long before the game starts to up the ante though. Who is the first Shadow to be found with Shadow Rush?

Answer: Delcatty

Lovrina, the boss of the Shadow Pokémon Lab, is the one who owns this Shadow Delcatty. Sadly, with Delcatty's pathetic Attack, Shadow Rush is not too strong despite being at a comparatively high base power relative to the rest of the game. Still, it's strong enough to at least leave a mark and offer a preview of what's to come from the rest of the game.
4. While Shadow Wave in "XD: Gale of Darkness" is a relatively weak spread special move, Shadow Storm takes this concept to the next level. Who is the first Shadow encountered with Shadow Storm?

Answer: Hypno

Found during a boss fight with Gorigan at the Cipher Key Lair, this attack can hurt quite a lot despite being a spread move. As such, if attempting to catch Hypno, it would be ideal to pack at least one Shadow who can withstand several Shadow Storms and survive long enough to give the player a handful of attempts at the capture.
5. Notably, Shadow Rush in "Colosseum" inflicts recoil on the user after each use. How much recoil damage does it inflict?

Answer: 1/16th the user's max HP

Unfortunately, it is very possible for Shadows to KO themselves while the player is trying to catch them. This becomes a serious problem when trying to catch legendaries or Pokemon with low catch rates, such as Gonzap's Skarmory, Nascour's Metagross or Evice's Tyranitar. Though risky, the player should put a Pokemon weak to their moves on the field if they're struggling with this problem; this will entice them to use moves other than Shadow Rush, giving the player more time to catch them.
6. With "XD: Gale of Darkness" featuring almost twenty different Shadow moves, how many does "Colosseum" have?

Answer: One

Unfortunately, this game only has Shadow Rush for a Shadow move. All Shadows begin with only Shadow Rush before they can relearn any of their moves. When wielded by the enemy, the enemy can use Shadow Rush or any of their three relearned moves.
7. Relearning moves via purification changed significantly, mechanically speaking, in "XD: Gale of Darkness". What is one difference coming over from "Colosseum"?

Answer: They are not learnset moves

In "Colosseum", Shadow Pokemon could only relearn moves that were either accessible via TM anyway or were part of that Pokemon's level up learnset. In "XD: Gale of Darkness" however, these moves frequently were composed of at least two, sometimes more, exclusive moves that could not be learned by that species in any other way.

For example, Poochyena and Mightyena re-learn Heal Bell upon purification. It is not possible to get Heal Bell on these two in any way other than acquiring them through this game.
8. In both games, Shadows have a chance to enter Hyper ("Colosseum") or Reverse ("XD: Gale of Darkness") mode. Both games share in common that afflicted Pokemon cannot have items used on them, with both games yielding only one exception- what item can still be used?

Answer: Scents

Items such as the Joy Scent are designed to empty the heart gauge on Shadow Pokemon when used. They will also remove the Hyper or Reverse Mode affliction upon use, but can only be used outside of battle.
9. Shadow-on-Shadow interactions are definitely possible and will likely occur many times throughout the average playthrough in both games. What is the key difference, mechanically, between both games in this regard?

Answer: Weakness/Resistance to their own moves

In "Colosseum", Shadows are neutral to their own moves. In "XD: Gale of Darkness", Shadow Pokemon resist Shadow moves, but regular Pokemon are weak to Shadow moves.
10. Weather is a big deal in both games, and "XD: Gale of Darkness" introduced Shadow Sky to let Shadow Pokemon enter the weather wars. Who is the first user of Shadow Sky the player will encounter?

Answer: Lunatone

Shadow Sky boosts the power of Shadow moves, in addition to damaging non-Shadows for 1/16th of their HP at the end of each turn. Lunatone's decent Special Attack and access to Shadow Wave and Shadow Sky let it make use of both traits.
