2. Hirohito was the infamous 20th century emperor of which Asian country?

Answer: Japan

Emperor Hirohito was the ruler of Japan throughout most of the 20th century. His reign started in 1926 and lasted until his death in 1989. While the outside world knows him by the name Hirohito, he was given the posthumous name Emperor Showa, and it is that name by which he is known exclusively in his home country.

While he is often remembered for his leadership during World War II, he led his country into becoming one of the most economically important and technologically influential countries of the world.

3. Herald, Stag, Dolomite and Acclaim were all models of motor car produced by which British manufacturer?

Answer: Triumph Motor Company

Like many automobile manufacturers, the British Triumph Motor Company began as an importer of bicycles and was, perhaps surprisingly, actually founded by two Germans; Siegfried Bettmann and Moritz Schulte in 1885. Moving to England in 1889, they began producing bicycles from a workshop in Coventry.

The company enjoyed success as an automobile manufacturer for many decades but, lack of investment, industrial strife, a dated product line and disastrous collaborations with overseas manufacturers, the Triumph Acclaim of 1981 a prime example, resulted in the Triumph name vanishing in 1984.

The marque is now owned today by BMW, the company coming into possession after its purchase of the Rover Group in 1994.

9. March 20, 1854 is generally considered the date which American political party, created to combat the spread of slavery, was formed?

Answer: Republican

Anti-slavery lawmakers in the north of the US formed the Republican party in March 1854. The first formal meeting of the new "Republican" party was held in Ripon Wisconsin on March 20 1854. The initial mission of the Republican party was to end slavery and spread social liberalism as reflected by the slogan "free labor, free land, free me".

The election of Abraham Lincoln as President and the passage of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments (after the US Civil War) brought most of these initial goals to fruition.

By the 1890s the party had redefined itself to promote free enterprise and social conservatism.

10. A bite is taken on which area of the Apple logo?

Answer: Right

The Apple logo was created in 1977 by Rob Janeff and, over the years, there have been many myths attached to it. These range from religious motives to the apple representing knowledge - referencing the apple falling on Isaac Newton's head and it supposedly leading to the discovery of the concept of gravity. Janeff cleared the air on this during an interview in 2009, indicating that Steve Jobs chose the apple because he worked in an orchard as a kid and named the computer after his favourite apple, the McIntosh.

The bite was added to the apple for scale. In this way, when they used a small apple, it still looked like an apple and not a cherry.
