Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How does the Gecko first find out about Geico?

Answer: He receives phone calls meant for Geico.

While he's eating toast, the Gecko answers a phone call from someone mistaking him for Geico Insurance. He receives so many calls that eventually he holds a press conference to let everyone know that he's not Geico Insurance. Geico (short for Government Employees Insurance Company), was begun by Leo and Lillian Goodwin in 1936, for the purpose of selling car insurance to government and military personnel.
2. What advertising mascot does the Gecko run into at the Geico auditions?

Answer: Taco Bell chihuahua

The Gecko decides that if he can't beat them, he'll join them, so he attends the Geico spokesperson auditions. As he's called in to audition, the Taco Bell chihuahua is just leaving. The Gecko looks at the dog and says, "Well hello", to which the dog responds, "Oh great, a talking Gecko", in his accented voice.

The Geico Gecko campaign was created by The Martin Agency of Richmond, Virginia.
3. What dance does an email suggest that Geico should have the Gecko doing on the website?

Answer: the Robot

The Geico representative says they received an email from someone saying that their website would be 'da bomb' if they had the Gecko doing the Robot. We're then shown the Gecko doing the Robot, followed by the Geico representative trying to do it as well.
4. What animal causes a car to wreck, by running out in the road, in a Geico commercial?

Answer: squirrel

A squirrel is sitting on a tree stump by the side of the road, when a car approaches. The squirrel jumps off the stump and runs out in the middle of the road, playing chicken with the car. After the car swerves, the squirrel is joined by his friend, and the two high-five each other. The voice over tells us that accidents can happen anytime, that's why Geico is there 24 hours a day.
5. What is wrong with the house the newlyweds move into in Geico's fake reality show?

Answer: It's too small.

The Tiny House commercial opens with a man telling his bride how awesome she is. The voice over tells us "The marriage was built to last, but the house was built too small", making us believe it's yet another silly reality show. We then see the couple trying to live in the house, with legs hanging off of the tiny bed, and the man lamenting that he just wanted to make an omelette.

The announcer then says "The drama will be real, but it won't save you any money on car insurance", making us realize we've been fooled.

The ad ends with the couple in their tiny jacuzzi asking why we haven't called Geico.
6. Which fitness guru is featured in one of Geico's phony infomercials?

Answer: Tony Little

The ad appears to be for Tony Little's Gazelle exercise machine. Tony's co-host, Stacy, laments that people want to shape up, but don't have time for it. Tony asks her if she'd like to strengthen her heart, shape her muscles and reduce stress in one hour a week with one machine. Naturally she says yes, and Tony tells her he has good news, he just saved a bunch of money on his car insurance by switching to Geico, yeah baby. Tony is then shown on the Gazelle saying his trademark "You can do it!".
7. In Geico's phony infomercial for a hair growth product, what sport does one man claim to have improved at since using the product?

Answer: tennis

In 'The Parker Solution for Hair Loss' commercial, the first man says that he loves to run, and it's not a problem because the hair goes with him when he runs. The second mentions that he would always wear a hat, even in the pool (we're treated to the sight of him in a pool, shaking his wet hair).

The third says that his tennis game has improved, and it feels like he's always acing the guy. The testimonials are followed by a man (with a full head of hair) who introduces himself as Dr. John Parker.

He tells us that hair loss is a common problem, but there's good news. Yeah, you guessed it, he just saved a bunch of money on his car insurance by switching to Geico.
8. In the first Geico caveman commercial, it is discovered that the cavemen are still around because one of them is working in the studio during filming. Is this caveman shirtless?

Answer: Yes

During the filming of the commercial, the Geico adman tells us that it's so easy to use Geico.com, a caveman could do it. We hear a "What?", and the camera pans over to the right where we see a shirtless boom operator, who is, with no doubt, a caveman.

He drops the boom and hollers "Not cool" at the adman before storming out. The adman is heard saying he didn't know the guy was there. Oddly enough, the caveman is the only member of the studio crew who is shirtless.
9. In the second caveman commercial, one caveman is using a laptop, and one is watching TV when they see the Geico ad. What is the third caveman doing?

Answer: Playing the piano

The cavemen are sitting in their home or apartment watching TV, when Geico's "using Geico.com is so easy, a caveman could do it" commercial comes on. One caveman stands up and says, "What's that supposed to mean? Did you hear that?", looking over at the one playing the piano. One of them replies, "That is really condescending". Notice the cave-drawing style painting on the wall.
10. In the third Geico caveman commercial, the cavemen are taken to lunch by the Geico representative. What does the first caveman order?

Answer: Roast duck with mango salsa

The offended cavemen have apparently made themselves known to Geico. They are taken out to lunch by the Geico representative, who apologizes and says they didn't know the cavemen were still around. One of the cavemen sarcastically suggests they should do a little more research next time.

The first caveman (impeccably dressed in a pink blazer) gives his order to the waiter, but the second one tells the waiter he doesn't have much of an appetite, thanks. Then he gives the Geico man a look which makes me laugh every time.
