Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Buenos dias, cómo estás?" You know that in Spanish "buenos dias" means good morning, but what does "cómo estás" mean?

Answer: How are you?

"Cómo estás" means "how are you" where "cómo" is "how" and "estás" is the verb "are". "Where are you" is translated as "dónde estás" or you can say "dónde eres tu" and "who are you" as "quien eres".
2. In Spanish, how will you reply to the question "¿cómo estás?"?

Answer: Muy bien, gracias

"I'm fine thank you" is the answer, which in Spanish is "muy bien, gracias". If you are ill, you will say "no estoy bien, gracias". "Me llamo Ana" means "my name is Ana". "Soy de Canadá" means "I'm from Canada" and "mucho gusto" means "nice to meet you".
3. If I ask you "¿cómo te llamas?" in Spanish, what am I asking?

Answer: Your name

Yes, your name and you will reply "me llamo ..." that is "my name is ...". Asking your age is "¿cuantos años tienes?".
4. The singular of car in Spanish is "el coche" where "el" is "the". How do you say "the cars"?

Answer: Los coches

"Los" is the plural of "the". Spanish is similar to French in having masculine and feminine nouns: in French, "el" is "le" and "los" is "les". "El" is the singular masculine while "la" is feminine. "Los" and "las" are plural masculine and feminine.
5. "Azul" is the colour blue in Spanish. How do you say "the blue sky"?

Answer: El cielo azul

Sky is a masculine word so in Spanish we say "el cielo". If it were skies, it would be "los cielos" and blue also would be in plural - "azules".
6. "Ser" is the verb "to be" where "I am" is "yo soy". How do you say "we are" in Spanish?

Answer: Nosotros somos

"Nosotros" (we) "somos" (are). "Tu eres" means "you are" while "el es" is "he is".
7. "Hablar" is the Spanish verb to speak. How will you say "I speak Spanish"?

Answer: Hablo español

"Hablo" or "yo hablo" is "I speak". In Spanish you don't need to add "I, you, we", you can start by the verb. "Hablamos" is "we speak" while "hablan" is "you (plural)speak" while "hablas" is "you (singular) speak".
8. Let's look at animals in Spanish: or "animales". "Cat" in spanish is "gato", but how do you say kitten?

Answer: Gatito

"Gattino" also means "kitten" but in Italian, while "gatinho" is the Portuguese word.
9. I think rabbits are by far the cutest animal. How do you say "rabbit" in Spanish?

Answer: El conejo

"El conejo" means "rabbit". "Los conejos son los más lindos animales" means "rabbits are the cutest animals". "La tortuga" is "the tortoise" and "la ballena" is "the whale" while "el cerdo" is "the pig".
10. The king of the jungle is the lion. What is the Spanish word for lion?
