Anne Walker's hideous, blood-drenched ghost appeared to James Graeme three times. She made it plain that she would not go away until Graeme went to the local magistrate and told him that she had been murdered by Mark Sharp, who had been hired by one of her relatives (by whom she was pregnant) to kill her.

She also told the miller where her body could be found. Realizing that the haunting would not stop until she got her revenge, he went to the authorities with his strange story. They found her body thrown into a pit exactly where she said it would be.

The killers were arrested, found guilty of her murder, and hung. After Graeme went to the authorities, Anne Walker's ghost was at rest and never bothered him again.

Answer: A ghostly, red, double-decker bus

A ghostly double-decker red bus was reported on numerous occasions and supposedly caused several accidents and near accidents. After a fatal accident at this location, the local coroner found dozens of local residents who had seen the bus. After the road was straightened, the bus was not seen again--at least not at this notorious intersection.

First of all, showers of refined gasoline came out of the walls. This was followed by water, then methylated spirits, and sandalwood oil showers. At one point, two quarts were actually measured coming out of the walls every ten minutes. It was first thought that the rectory stood on a natural oil well, and the walls were soaking up oil and then spouting it out, but this was discounted, and no apparent reason was ever found for this phenomena.

Answer: Flying Dutchman

The 17th century sailing ship, "Flying Dutchman", has been seen by generations of sailors. Its appearance usually portends diaster, so the sight of the huge sailing ship is an unwelcome one. Wagner's opera "Der Fliegende Hollander" was inspired by the "Flying Dutchman" legend.

Answer: George Washington

A Union general, several officers, and hundreds of soldiers insisted George Washington on horseback showed them the right way to go at a fork in the roads on the way to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The 20th Maine Division arrived at Gettysburg in time to help capture a very strategic area of the battlefield called Little Round Top.

Answer: Blackbeard

It has been said on moonlit nights that Blackbeard's headless shade can be seen swimming in the Ocracoke Island cove where Edward Teach (better known as Blackbeard) died. In November, 1718 after a tremendous sea battle with the British navy led by Lt. Robert Maynard, Blackbeard finally succumbed to five bullets and over 20 sword wounds.

His head was hung on the British ship, but it was rumored that his headless body swam around the boat three times before sinking. It is also said that sometimes a headless ghost holding a lantern can be seen wandering the local beaches looking for its head.

Answer: Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn was the second wife of England's King Henry VIII. She was beheaded in 1536. Her ghost has supposedly taken up residences in the Tower of London where she lived out the last months of her life.

Answer: Resurrection Mary

The beautiful hitchhiker you just picked up could just be Resurrection Mary. This beautiful shade has been reportedly picked up by numerous motorists. She resides at Resurrection Cemetery at 7200 South Archer Avenue in Chicago's South Side. She is thought to be the ghost of a young Polish girl who was killed in an auto accident coming home from the O Henry Ballroom, later named Willowbrook Ballroom, in 1931.

She was interred in her party dress and dancing shoes at the Resurrection Cemetery, of course. So if you happen to be driving along Archer Avenue, and you pick up a young lady in dancing shoes and an evening gown, and she disappears near Resurrection Cemetery--don't panic! You've just given a lift to Resurrection Mary!

Answer: Andrew Jackson

It seems that the Bell Witch, as the spirit was called, was not impressed in the slightest by Old Hickory's visit and threw dishes and furniture at him. The honorable Mr. Jackson was said to have left in quite a rush! The Bell Witch started haunting the John Bell home in 1817 until 1821, when she announced that she was leaving but would return in seven years.

She returned for a couple of weeks in 1828 before disappearing again. Some still think that she remains to this day and haunts a nearby cave on the banks of the Red River.

This cave is, of course, called the Bell Witch Cave. The Tennessee Historical Commission has even erected a marker describing the Witch's tirade against the Bell household. Now, does anyone want to go check out that cave next to the Red River--maybe on a dark, rainy night about midnight, the Witching Hour?

Answer: A half-naked, half-frozen chicken

A scary half-naked, half-frozen chicken has been seen on numerous occasions haunting the area of Pond Square in London's Highgate. It seems the great Sir Francis Bacon decided to do an experiment with snow and decided to have his coachman buy, then kill and then pluck most of the feathers off the chicken.

He then proceeded to stuff the chicken with snow and into a sack. However Bacon took ill and collapsed in the snow himself, and he died a few days later. No one knows what happened to the chicken during all this, but its shade has been observed on several occasions. Plucked of its feathers, the poor bird appears to flop around in circles and is quite hideous to look at. Of course it always disappears when someone tries to catch it. Anyone for fried chicken?
