Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It's okay to go ghost hunting by yourself, if it's during the daytime.

Answer: false

Safety is the most important reason to have at least one other person with you. You could twist an ankle on uneven terrain, fall, or get hurt in any number of ways. Your companion could then summon help for you.
Another reason not to go on an investigation alone is for verification purposes. It's important to have corroboration of what you have seen, heard, or felt, if possible. Sometimes only one person may experience the phenomenon, and that's fine, but not for purposes of an evidentiary nature.
2. You should always be well-equipped when going ghost hunting, whether you're going just for fun, or to conduct a serious investigation. Which of the following is important to bring along?

Answer: all of these

A friend is important in case of an emergency and for verification purposes. A flashlight is important in dark places, of course. Actually, you should bring extra flashlights in case you drop and break the one you have, or in case it stops working for some other reason.

The reason for bringing along plenty of batteries is that batteries have been known to become drained extremely quickly in haunted places. One theory is that ghosts need energy to manifest, and draining the energy from batteries is one way in which they do this.
3. A cell phone can be relied upon as a safety item.

Answer: False

You may be in an area that has little or poor reception. Also, batteries in any type of equipment have been known to fail in haunted areas, even though they may have been fully charged when you started out.
4. Which of the following is UNIMPORTANT to do when you are preparing to go ghost hunting?

Answer: watch "Most Haunted" on TV to see how they do things

Extra flashlights and batteries are vital in case a flashlight is lost or fails. Asking permission before ghost hunting on private property is important from a legal standpoint, as well as being respectful of the property owner. Checking out the area in the daytime first is extremely important, so that you can check for the locations of uneven ground, holes, or anything else that may be hazardous in the dark.

It's also helpful to take photos in the daytime, to compare against the photos you take in the dark later. That way you can identify something which may seem unusual in your night time photos.
5. What does the term EVP mean?

Answer: electronic voice phenomena

EVPs are believed by many to be the voices of spirits caught on audio tape recordings.
Fredrich Jurgenson was the man who first discovered electronic voice phenomena.
On June 12, 1959, he was in his garden trying to record bird song. Upon playing back his recording, he was surprised to hear a man's voice that he hadn't heard at the time he was doing the recording. Jurgenson conducted further experiments, with amazing results.
6. If strange things happen in your home, such as keys or other articles disappearing, only to appear later in the exact place where you had put them, lights turning on and off by themselves, or radios or televisions blaring loudly although they have been turned off, then there is a possibility that your house may be what?

Answer: haunted

Before assuming that you may have a ghost or ghosts in your house, it's advisable to check for natural explanations, such as loose light bulbs or faulty wiring.
If natural explanations have been ruled out, try setting up a video camera during the night, or leaving a tape recorder running.
7. A horrible murder is the only reason for a place to be haunted.

Answer: False

Places may be haunted because the spirit of a deceased person may feel that he or she has unfinished business, because the person may not realize that they are dead, because a deceased relative may be watching over their loved ones, or for other reasons which we may not know. Also, a haunting may not involve a spirit in the accepted sense of the word.

There is a theory that places or even the ground may hold "memory imprints" of traumatic happenings or intense emotions. In such places, certain events may be re-played endlessly.
8. Which of these are good places to look for ghosts?

Answer: all of these

Battlefields such as Gettysburg are known to be extremely haunted. Battles involve sudden deaths and intense emotion such as fear. Hospitals and old mental institutions may have had many deaths on the premises, as well as strong emotions.
9. Which of the following is something that is NOT good when taking photographs in haunted locations?

Answer: both of these

Both of these, as well as things such as dust in the air, long hair which may be caught in front of the camera lens, or camera straps which fall in front of the camera lens, can cause effects which may be thought to be "supernatural", but which in fact are not.

Another problem in cold weather is your breath. It's important in cold weather to hold your breath just before, during, and just after taking a picture, to avoid confusion over whether the mist captured in your photograph is spirit energy or just your breath.

This is the same problem with smoking in any weather. Care must be taken to scrutinize photographs carefully before stating that paranormal results have been captured.
10. Which of the following locations is reputed to be quite haunted?

Answer: all of these

Gettysburg was the place of a battle in the American Civil War. The battle took place in July of 1863.
Anne Boleyn and Thomas More were just two of the people who were imprisoned in, and subsequently executed just outside of, the Tower, and who are said to haunt it. Anne Boleyn was the second wife of King Henry VIII. On May 19, 1536, she was beheaded after being tried and convicted of adultery, incest and treason. Thomas More was executed as a traitor on July 6th, 1535, for refusing to accept King Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England.
The Queen Mary was in service from 1936 to 1967. For most of that period, she was used as an ocean liner. However, during WWII, she was used as a transport ship for troops. The Queen Mary can now be found permanently berthed in Long Beach, California. The area of the first-class swimming pool is said to be the most haunted area aboard the ship, although not the only one. Wet footsteps are said to appear in the swimming pool area, even though there is not a drop of water in the pool. Also, there have been reports of sightings of women in vintage bathing suits.
